graphictree Posted August 29, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi! I've just taken ownership of a Leica M4. It's battered (which I quite like ... a bit of character!) but also a bit 'grubby' (which I don't like ... looks uncared for!). I'd like to clean it (metalwork only) and was wondering if there is any wisdom on the best cleaning fluids/techniques to use? Any ideas? TIA Gareth

marknorton Posted August 29, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2009 Go easy. Use a damp (not wet) kitchen towel with the smallest amount of detergent, such as washing-up liquid. Avoid using anything such as benzene, lighter fuel or other strong organic solvent. If the detergent doesn't work, you could try iso-propyl alcohol which we used to use for cleaning tape heads. Always apply any liquid to the cloth not the camera. You can also use Q-Tips to get at those hard to reach spots but of course avoid anything metallic. Enjoy the camera when you've cleaned it up. graphictree Posted August 30, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted August 30, 2009 Many thanks... I will have a coffee, take a deep breath and proceed with caution. (And stop often to admire my handiwork!) gareth
