icemendicant Posted November 14, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) My relatively new MP has developed a sudden problem with its meter. The LEDs do not activate as they should, but once the shutter has been fired the metering switches on and seems to react to light normally. However, as soon as I make any movement of the film advance lever, the metering deactivates again until after I have fired the shutter. This seems to be a persistent effect that is not going away and is not intermittent. I have changed the battery, changed the lens and put in a new film, tried at all apertures with the lenses etc. The camera has never been dropped or exposed to water in any way (it's only six months old and was built a la carte). I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if there is something obvious I am missing. Otherwise it's back to Milton Keynes... Thanks in advance, Dan

Guest lykoudos Posted November 14, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 14, 2006 Hello, Also I have a problem with my new MP, i.e. with the a reflection of the different picture frameworks over the “Bildfeldwähler”. After approximately three weeks camera enterprise, could not be faded in the picture framework with the lever more. In the meantime the camera is after Solms on the way. Concerns do not make myself I however around such marginal note. And my enthusiasm for this camera is thereby also case of no clouded. I therefore hope that your problem can be likewise solved to your satisfaction from Leica. Kind regards Wolfgang
wizard Posted November 14, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 14, 2006 Dan, your MP certainly doesn't behave as it should. The meter should function when the shutter is cocked, and should NOT function after you have fired. My guess is that it is not a big thing, probably an internal switch that has loosened itself, but I assume it will have to go to Milton Keynes for repair... icemendicant Posted November 14, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted November 14, 2006 Thanks Wolfgang and Andy, for taking the time to reply. I agree, it does seem like some sort of minor internal glitch rather than a major problem. I shall ship if off for a service tomorrow. When this camera first arrived, it had to go back straight away for the frameline mechanism to be adjusted as it was too tight and would not allow lenses to be mounted, and Leica MK did a fantastic job of turning this around in only three days including couriers both ways. It may be that the adjustments for this model were off in other slight ways. Not to worry, I'm sure it will be back in good shape soon. symmetron Posted November 15, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 15, 2006 Dan, Had similar problem with a new MP. Sent it to Leica USA and they fixed it and returned it in a couple of weeks; some sort of meter problem. At the time, it was very disappointing; new camera and all. Good Luck. frc Posted November 15, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 15, 2006 Hi Dan, Cock shutter. Press shutterrelease halfway, meter engaged. If not, there's something wrong. I don't know whether I'm just lucky, but I've had about 250 films through my MP and never a problem. This is how it should be, it's a Leica, it should work flawless. regards, Fr. Swann Posted November 15, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leicas have a high perfection and are built most carefully for long operation stability. But this regrettably does not mean they make no problems. From all these many cameras that were in my camera bag these long years it's mostly Leicas I had issues with. What you need urgently as a Leica photographer is an experienced mechanic in your neighborhood :-) Bring it to the repair shop, Leica offers great service and keep optimistic. Never stop shooting, best regards Swann

Swann I like shooting with my Leicas very much, I have bought several new cameras but the Leicas prooved to be the least reliable. I had problems with my Tri Elmar diafragma ring came loose 28 mm ASPH mechanical problems I had to send my CM Zoom 4 times back and now my 11 months old M7 has problems with the DX code Luc
Guest lykoudos Posted November 16, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 16, 2006 Hello Luc, The problems resemble themselves. I heard also of the fact that with the Tri- Elmar loosen occasionally the screws at the rings. And the problem with with the M7 and its DX coding is already legendary. Both problems in series appear, are them thereby also again visible and to be solved. With my MP I had also various problems. I already for this reported. Leica gives itself all trouble, the repair so fast it goes however at any time settling. Kind regards Wolfgang
rob_x2004 Posted November 16, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 16, 2006 Leicas have a high perfection and are built most carefully for long operation stability. With all due respect, I find this a little naive. Leicas are built expensively, either by nature of design or manufacture.
