YEAH... one of the girls just brought me a box from CameraQuest.com uploading pictures to my blog just now.
![]() Guys, this is one big piece of glass, though once I got it stripped of the lens shade and lens cap, it is nowhere as big as I had feared and don't shot much in the viewfinder at all. I can get use to this piece of glass really quickly. ![]() Still the wideangle of the iPhone makes it look rather large on the M. ![]() Naturally I promptly ran to the nearest possible portrait subject for a quick test shot. surely this would have been better in the studio with less mixed colors. Hello Cyberean,
Sorry, did not mean to over hype it, just was excited that it arrived. Actually I had a Noct lined up for a shoot-out but that did fall through, so if anyone in the greater Los Angeles area want to collaborate, Im looking for surely a old noct and also a Konica, as I figure these are the two most direct competitors, Im not delusional enough to think that a new 0.95 noct will in any way be rocked by a $1000 lens, so while it would be fun to include one in the shoot, I figure it will just be for research value, but not a actual lens of interest to anyone who would buy the Nokton 1.1 - The idea is to get as many as possible of these lenses together, alone with a couple of cool guys, I will get a model and arrange to shoot in a diner and some window portrait and also a night shot... basically a series of real life typical noct shots, we will tripod the M and shoot each shot with each lens.. then we can go home and compare them on even terms.. Soo, if anyone in the greater LA / SoCal area are game for a bit of fun, message or email me. . |

You should have simply posted a few shots and said they was from a Noctilux. It would have been interesting to see how many of the usual Leica fanboys would start salivating about how "wonderfully soft but sharp it is, blah blah". Knowing it doesn't have Leica written on the front, those same people will think the lens is crap.

Congratulations
But I need to see more and more shots from this lens. Even maybe send me some DNGs so I can have a look at them up close, @ 1.1 of course. Good luck with it and hope to see more shot soon. P.S. I agree with wattsy about the L F B's. |

A few people are starting to post photos from this lens on Flickr. One person who goes by the name Typographer has posted a lot of Tokyo street shots done at f/1.1 or f/2. They are apparently shot on film and scanned.

Photographers who are very interested in this new lens (but who may not necessarily need the full F/1.1 lens speed) might also want to keep in mind that the CV 50/1.5 Nokton is an exceptionally good lens and less expensive as well. It's not "the new thing" but it is worth knowing about.

Sean, the 1.5 is also a LOT lighter and more compact. one cant really go wrong with that.
Im really looking forward to seeing your take on the 50mm 1.1, I did a f. stop bracket and added it to the page this morning at 100%, the highlights bloom a lot, unless a fast lens is the only thing which can do the trick, I would say any slower lens will outperform this one, it is rather soft and low contrast as one would have expected. IIn the shots where I have nailed the focus, I am still not entirely sure simply because the lens is soft enough that I don't see the contrast "snap". . |

Yes Sean, include the Noct 1.0 this is a very relevant lens for a lot of us, particularly now that there is a new sexier 0.95 on the market. oh and why not also the Hex 1.2 ? just for kicks to make it the ultimate available light lens shootout.
Shootist and Cyberean...... you wanted more photographic evidence. First I did a f stop bracket and put 100% crop on the blog post. Second, just for you... on the fullsize, notice the blooming of the slight highlight on his forehead, the image is sharp and shot at a high shutter speed, yet you will notice that even on the contrast lines on the sidewalk there is no hard contrast even in the focus area.
