roguewave Posted February 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The white plastic uptake sleeve cracked in my CL. Has anyone had this repaired or replaced? Can one do this themselves? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Ben
Advertisement Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Hi roguewave, Take a look here Leica CL repair for film uptake. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest suilvenman Posted February 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted February 24, 2009 Ben, The only advice I can offer is to check out the CRR Luton site which has some brief info. on this problem with the CL. Looks as if you need a new spool with the later brass collar. I know it's on the other side of the pond but it might be worth a call to Peter Grisaffi. In my personal experience, Peter has always been very helpful in answering queries about anything Leica. Hope this helps. Cheers, Ken.
ho_co Posted February 24, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 24, 2009 (edited) Ben, I don't think it's a diy proposition. Of course I don't know your situation, but some folks wanted to load the Leicaflexes and the CL by first putting the film cassette into the camera, then attaching the leader--and by doing so, usually attaching it backward. So Leica decided the intended quicker way of loading (leader first, then cassette) wasn't obvious enough, and started replacing the plastic teeth with metal ones. The fact that you're just now replacing the take-up teeth implies that you've been loading the camera right for a long time! Congratulations on the good years of service that I assume you've got from it. The CL is a true jewel that really thrives on use. I'd say send it to a Leica agency or to someone trained by Leica. DAG and Sherry both know the CL inside and out because they were both at Leica when it came out. I know Germany designed the camera and asked Minolta to produce it--but then Minolta found (according to the story) that some metal parts had to be made in Germany and shipped to them because their own facilities couldn't produce them in a hard enough grade to work. roguewave Posted February 24, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted February 24, 2009 Ken, thanks. Howard, I already have a 50 R cron with Sherry, so I guess I'll ping her & ask what's involved. Thanks so very much. Ben
