I am pleased to report that my M7 has finally (after ten months) returned from Solms with the Dx coding problem resolved. The original gold plated contacts have been replaced with an optic Dx code reader and the display is as steady as one could wish for.

Now, how do I persuade Leica to do the same for my second M7, that also has erratic Dx readings?

This is interesting. My main M7 has suffered from DX coding problems virtually since new. Leica UK have had it back at least once but the problem persists. By coincidence I was talking to Milton Keynes about it last week and was given the name of somebody to talk to tomorrow. I may insist that they send it to Solms but I can't do without the camera for 10 months.

Never trusted this....always manually set...therefore never an issue.

Well that's where you are wrong. My DX coding problem has issues (flashing dot and, more lately, a different ISO reading than that set on the rear) even when I use the manual option.

Well...each one of us with different problems..but yours appears to be irritating to say the least. Do you think you need to clean the contacts ? Does it happen with all films ?

The most annoying thing is that it doesn't happen all the time. I have tried cleaning the contacts but it doesn't seem to provide a long term fix. It's irritating enough when it's just the flashing dot problem but a recent variation of it saw me unable to change the camera from an ISO of 25 no matter what manual ISO I had selected (there was 100 speed film in the camera). When I finished the film and opened the back up evrything went back to being normal and have been unable to replicate that particular problem since (though the flashing dot issue comes up fairly regularly).

Irrespective of my own particular issues with the DX coding, I've always thought that having sprung DX contacts in a film chamber that is accessed vertically was a bit of a Heath Robinson solution. At best, it seems to make getting the film canister out more difficult than it would otherwise be and, at worst, seems to make the camera unnecessary unreliable. Far better in my mind if they had simply retained the old M6 system of manual ISO selection.

The only working solution is the optical DX reader. If once modified you'll never discuss again about faulty DX reading.

Wrong, my friend !

My M7 was modified with sensing diodes in 2007, still ilt recently began to misread the film: 50 in place of 200 asa, but 400 is correct.

Manual setting does not help.

It will go back to Solms once again.

Never trust my M7 again.

:(
