rick_dykstra Posted October 28, 2008 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi folks. Now that I've got my R8 motor drive working again I'd like to finish the job neatly by sticking the leatherette back on properly. Leica use a thin sheet of double sided adhesive to do this. This adhesive has lost much of its stickiness with all of the work I've been doing. Does anyone know what this adhesive film is and where it can be bought? Are there any alternative methods/products that have worked well? Thanks. Rick.

Is this stuff anything like the double sided Sellotape (or one of several alternative brands) which I use as part of my print mounting process. It's the stuff that you stick down one side, then peel off a backing layer, to leave the other sticky side exposed? I guess you could try using that. stumac Posted October 29, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 29, 2008 3M made a tape that left a thin adhesive after peeling off the backing paper, I have forgotton the number, the roll I had for 20 years dried out so I binned it. Regards, Stuart
marknorton Posted October 29, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 29, 2008 I think you should just use a general purpose impact adhesive - brand names in the UK would be "Bostik" or "Evo-Stik" - apply it sparingly, spread to the edges, let it become tacky and press on, tape it in position overnight. You could use your wife's credit card to spread the adhesive which would prevent her using it to buy more shoes...
rick_dykstra Posted October 29, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted October 29, 2008 Thanks for these ideas. I'd have to be careful with the credit card suggestion. Today I'll be buying shoes myself - four new P Zero Rossos.
rob_x2004 Posted October 29, 2008 Share #6 Posted October 29, 2008 The other thing you could consider is using a rubber based cement like Henzo for sections in between the contact cement, or even just use it without the contact. You will always be able to get it back off. Your motor drive thread is pretty amazing.
rick_dykstra Posted October 30, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted October 30, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Your motor drive thread is pretty amazing. It's been amazingly time consuming! And not just for me. Hopefully there's something in the threads to help others with similar motor drive or battery problems. Like, only go poking around in there if you're prepared to fix what you damage! Thanks for the ideas on adhesives. I have some Henzo glue for sticking prints into acid free albums - I'll give it some thought.
wildlightphoto Posted October 30, 2008 Share #8 Posted October 30, 2008 When I called Leica USA about the proper adhesive to stick the leatherette back on my R4sP they recommended rubber cement. Pliobond (Micro-Tools, Camera & Watch Repair Tools - Home) is good too.
