TimF Posted June 30, 2006 Share #1 Posted June 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/news/Kodak_closures_spell_job_losses_news_87785.html Given that Kodak were denying this only a week or so ago, does this indicate a new depth to which Big Yellow has now sunk? Certainly puts a new spin on the nickname IMHO.
Advertisement Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Hi TimF, Take a look here Bad News for European Kodachrome Fans. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted June 30, 2006 Share #2 Posted June 30, 2006 The scale of the flight from film is very interesting. No wonder Leica Berlin are trying to offload their Pradovits at a discount...
albertwang Posted June 30, 2006 Share #3 Posted June 30, 2006 Not surprised. Kodak is fully digital for the most part by now...
jlancasterd Posted June 30, 2006 Share #4 Posted June 30, 2006 Not surprised. Kodak is fully digital for the most part by now... Yes - see the article 'The future of Film' in LFI 5/2006 just out - German film consumption down from 197 million units in 2001 to 90 million last year and, I suspect, very similar trends in the UK, USA and mnost other countries. A friend who owns a photo business in Malaysia (Leica agents Anna Photo in Kuching) is also complaining about the fall off in demand for fim and minilab D&P. leicapages Posted July 1, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 1, 2006 Bad news indeed. Doest that mean that all Kodachrome films, including those sold/used in Europe, have to be sent to the US for processing? How long would that take, and what is the procedure to be followed for shipment (including liability in case of loss)? Guess it is yet another good reason to use Fuji Provia or Velvia
Trevor Hare Posted July 3, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 3, 2006 I only have 3 rolls of Kodachrome 64 left so I am not that bothered. It is not particularly special anyway and takes ages to wait for the slides to be returned. I get better results with Velvia & Provia and a good turnaround with Fujilab UK and reasonable prices.
