Hi forum readers,

If you are attending the Photokina, please take along your Epson RD* and hook up the new 28mm/2.8 Asph while you there. Show us some images from that lens. We're dying to see some.

Thanks!

My opinion: 1) The Leica lenses are vastly superior to the Zeiss lens; 2) The Summicron is a better and faster lens than the Elmarit; 3) The Elmarit is similar to the Summicron until 16mm from the center of the image (the size of the M8 sensor), but it is a worse performer in the borders and corners of the 35mm frame.

The Leica MTFs have curves for 5, 10, 20 and 40 lp/mm, and Zeiss for 10, 20 and 40 lp/mm.

The Elmarit is small, cheaper and lighter, and the performance with the M8 will be similar to the Summicron's.

I am not sure about how important is for me the additional aperture stop.

The Zeiss lens has a symmetrical design, but the Leica's are asymmetrical (with an aespheric lens).

The Elmarit will cost 1350 euros (VAT included), the Summicron is 2700 euros and the Zeiss is 950 euros.

Artie,

If you will be patient, you will see shots from this lens on both film and with the M8. It's just a question of Leica releasing the photographers who took them, including a friend of mine who used it in July.
