Leicalsf Posted August 17, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 17, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I jsut realize that my R-APO-telyt 180mm f/3.4 is an older version (Serial number 2947129) one which uses E59 filters.... I have take off the filter on my R-APO-MACRO-Elmarit (E60) and try to put it on the 180 f/3.4, but the E60 filter appears to be too big, just a tiny bit too big; that's how i figure out that it is an E59 lens... by the way, the filter thread on the lens is perfect, not even a scratch... Now... what can i do about it if i want to find a filter for it... Anyone who knows what adaptor it uses? or is there any alternative way for me to have this problem solve while still being able to use its build-in hood? Thank you very much!!! Advertisement Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Hi Leicalsf, Take a look here Filter problem with E59 APO-Telyt 180 f/3.4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
uulrich Posted August 17, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2006 You should contact your nearest Schneider Kreuznach B+W dealer and ask him to quote for E59 filters. It's most likely they do not stock them but they can let you know how long it takes to get some. Be aware that the prices may well blow your mind! I've been told once that the E59 are manufactured 'on demand'. I have the same struggle w/ Noctilux Canada, which is E59 as well. I cannot give you any advice regarding your lens hood on your 180, but if you go for a E59 w/out adapter perhaps it would fit w/ your current lens hood. Another question mark is if you need a slim filter, to eventually cope the 'snap-on' lens hood problem. This, I'm afraid, I cannot answer.
doubice Posted August 17, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2006 Ryan, The early Apo-Telyt uses series 7.5 filters. Series filters do not have a thread, but are held in place by a retaining ring, which must be missing from your lens. Leica used to and maybe still do, offer an upgrade for the old Apo Telyt by installing the 60mm filter thread which would allow you to use 60mm filters and retain the use of the hood. All the best, Jan
chris_yu Posted August 17, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2006 I bought my Apo-Telyt 180/3.4 in the late ' 70 ,and I am using a series 7.5 UV filter with the original retaining attached. Chris
