William Noel Posted August 31, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 31, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there. I'm a hobbiest and do photography just for relaxation. Bought my digilux3 last end of May 2007. After using it for just a while, I'm a bit disappointed of its body's finish. It is easily scratched and the paint fades. I found a dirt at the chrome portion of it which I tried to remove using my finger nail and I was surprised that the paint had been removed. I just can't believe it's quality since I really admire Leica and its the main reason why I bought it. Just wondering if someone out there experienced the same thing? Guest lykoudos Posted August 31, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 31, 2007 Hello William, that is more than unfortunaty, even annoying. I already heard of the sensitivity of the surfaces of others and not only at the Dugilux 3 but also to the 2. With the sensor it seems to give also various problems. I could be said that the Digilux 3 also probably came from reasons of the market too fast. I think, the successor not will be long in coming. The individual components are however regarded for itself by high quality. But there is only one here: lodge a complaint. Leica could special be broken in with this product somewhat. For registered customers there is a special price and for every six months long with damage, even if they were also negligently caused by one replacement or a new camera. William Noel Posted August 31, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted August 31, 2007 Hi lykoudos, Thanks for your reply. Yes you're right, this is the right place to vent our complaints. It is not just us users who will notice this but also our friends especially here in my place that they rarely sees this brand and when they try to look at it who have high expectations will surely be disappointed also. Although the components have high quality as you've said, but I think the external surface is very important since this is what people directly sees. Anyway, hope Leica will listen. Best regards... william
LVSBB6 Posted August 31, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 31, 2007 I have been using the Digilux 2 with care for over two years, haven't noticed any scatch marks or fades on the surfaces itself. I think it really depends how careful you handle it.. Hello William, that is more than unfortunaty, even annoying. doubice Posted September 1, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 1, 2007 Actually, the susceptibility of the Digilux 2 (and obviously the 3 as well) to scratches has been covered on this forum in the past. Yes, the finish is not very durable and that is why Leica supplied rather silly strap eyelet protectors with the Digilux 2. The whole bottom plate of my Digilux 2 is scratched from just moving inside a cordura bag for 3 hours, while on a horseback ride. Otherwise, a superb camera! Hi Neuer, I'm very careful to my gears, it's just because I can compare it to my previous equipment like the pentax k1000 which is also a chrome plated on the top and bottom. This is a relatively cheaper camera but has a better scratch resistant quality. Anyway other than that, I'm happy with the cam and am having a great time using it. cheers...
