Default Macro Elmar-R 100mm F4

I'm considering the purchase of a Macro-Elmar-R 100mm F4 as a cheaper alternative to the Apo-Macro-Elmarit-R 100mm F2.8. Its main use will be for close focus work (flowers, etc)

Does anyone have experience with this lens? How good is it?

Best used in close range. Stop to F8 for distant subjects. I returned my borrowed sample and bought the FAR better 100 APO which is sharper at any distance and stop.

It is not a bad lens for its time, just not as good.

I've the lens and enjoy.. a little dark sometimes for focusing...f8 is best, yeah. Anyway, a lot cheaper alternative to the APO 2.8. I'd go for it. I"ve been real satisfied with mine, for portraits and close-ups.
