andybarton Posted August 20, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 20, 2010 Is there now a vacancy? I reckon I could do a reasonable job, and it must be my turn soon.

bill Posted August 20, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I couldn't honestly give a flying fart why the change has been made. I see no reason to regard it as anything other than a normal progression of events, certainly unworthy of conspiracy theorist ellipsis... Guest BigSplash Posted August 24, 2010 Share #10 Posted August 24, 2010 The German magazine "Photoscala" posted the following table: Fluktuation der Leica-Vorstandsvorsitzenden Amtszeit Name 1999 to Jan 2005 72 months Hanns-Peter Cohn Jan 2005 to April 2005 4 months Ralf Coenen April 2005 to Nov 2006 19 months Josef Spichtig Nov 2006 to Feb 2008 15 months Steven K. Lee Feb 2008 to Feb 2009 12 months Dr Andreas Kaufmann Feb 2009 to Aug 2010 17 months Rudolf Spiller Aug. 2010 to Alfred Schopf Bottom line as I see it Leica has had 7 CEO's in 10 years or 4 since Dr Kaufmann bought the company 4 years ago. At the level(s) below the CEO Herr Spiller brought in new blood and has made many changes ....it will be interesting to see what happens next, and if there will be any change of direction. adan Posted August 25, 2010 Share #11 Posted August 25, 2010 Just for the record, while Dr. K and ACM bought out Hermes' share of Leica 4 years ago, he was a significant shareholder long before that (with a stake about the same size as Hermes ~30% at the time of the buyout), and in fact Kaufmann was the force behind the departure of H-P Cohn, promoting Coenen from within as interim CEO while he sought a replacement, finally hiring Josef Spichtig. That was at the time of Leica's flirt with the financial brink, and coincidentally or otherwise, the moment when Leica (e.g. Cohn) was still saying a digital rangefinder was not possible - and Epson was announcing one. Spichtig was a "turnaround" consultant with no particular ties to camera-making, so his departure once the turnaround was mostly established was a foregone conclusion. So in effect, Dr. K removed two CEOs in five years for - for the most part - making inconvenient public statements. Since Rudy Spiller has not said anything especially notable recently, I guess that is not the cause this time. And have no idea what was - he seemed to get the M9 out the door and Leica into the black, and I thought he was doing a good job. My own impression is that Dr. K has been the "constant" at Leica since 2004, and that "changes in direction" are usually what get his CEOs into trouble. But we shall see.... rosuna Posted August 30, 2010 Share #12 Posted August 30, 2010 Alfred Schopf is (was) Managing Director of CW Sonderoptic Wetzlar, a subsidiary of "ACM Project Development Company", owned by Dr. Andreas Kaufmann. The Leica Summilux-C lenses were developed by CW Sonderoptic, and optically designed by Iain Neil, former optical designer at Panavision.
