bscott Posted January 2, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Summicron f2 35mm lens made for the Leica M3 and it has a good case of fungus. Should I send back to Leica for repair or look for another one in good condition? Also, if repaired what is the chance that some fungus will not grow back into the lens? The lens is in good condition and the serial no. is 1652431

jlancasterd Posted January 2, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 2, 2007 I'm afraid that Leica won't touch this lens with a barge pole - they won't let it into the factory. This is for the very good reason that they don't want the fungus spores infecting all of the other lenses in the building. You *might* find a 3rd party technician willing to clean it for you - but I wouldn't bet any money on it.
abrewer Posted January 2, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 2, 2007 I have a Summicron f2 35mm lens made for the Leica M3 and it has a good case of fungus. Bill, you need to send the lens to Louisville...Colorado. John at Focal Point Unfortunately, if the fungal infestation is bad it may not be economically feasible to repair the lens. It will probably be necessary for you to send the lens to him to determine if this is the case. Still, that is less expensive than a new 35. Good luck. Thanks.
