Does anyone know the part number for the Elmarit-M 28mm ASPH's rectangular lens hood cap? Lost it

Sorry, hopefully someone else will have the part number--but I only wanted to say this has to be one of the poorer designs. Lost mine, too, while on vacation. Retraced my steps in this small town and then. . .there it was, in the street! There isn't much at all to keep it on. I don't bother to use it anymore.

I think that's the same style as the 35mm Summicron asph hood cap? If so - I suggest forgetting about replacing it. They are renowned for disappearing and really not worth the bother imho.

I just read about this lens today - if you believe Ken, the part number should be 14 038:

 

Leica 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH

Actually, according to that site, that number is for the hood itself. The hood cover is number 14 043.

Sorry, what I should have said was part #14 038 is for the cap for the lens without the hood. the cap for the hood is #14 043.

It is an expensive piece of plastic to loose. I lost mine myself, paid £17.00 + VAT for a new one.

Just for clarification, L14013 is for the Summicron-M.

L14043 is for the Elmarit-M.

Brian, #14043. It is the same as that used on the 35mm Summicron and I have lost both twice more than I have found them! I agree that it is an extremely poor design, unworthy of Leica lens designers.

 

I have even thought of threading a black nylon thread through the edge in order to tether it; but that is an untidy solution. I now have a new rule: remove it and store it safely at the start of a shoot and not replace it until the end of the shoot. I am tired of paying ridiculous amounts of cash for a thin piece of black plastic!

I've lost one twice, both times because it flipped off when opening a neoprene case. The neoprene is elastic enough to catch it and flip it off unnoticed. (I don't have the lens anymore, and I rarely if ever use the case either).

As others have pointed out, it is the same as the 35mm Summicron hood. When I first bought the 28mm Elmarit Asph. and saw the hood I couldn't believe it wouldn't cause vignetting. I tested it and didn't find any, but I still can't bring myself to believe it.
