  1. https://collectiblend.com/Cameras/Leitz/Leica-II-(Mod-D)-Schnittmodell.html
  2. No, no doubt it’s not an official cut away! I’m more interested whether it’s a Leica at all or not 😅. The only official Leica II cutaway I have seen is this one: https://collectiblend.com/Cameras/Leitz/Leica-II-(Mod-D)-Schnittmodell.html
  3. I do not doubt this! And I do not believe this to be a “factory made cutaway”, but I’m still not sure if this is a Leica at all or not. The top plate engraving is definitely not from the correct time period, but all other parts of the camera feels very genuine to me. I think the only way to know for sure is to take it apart, but I would prefer if someone with a lot more experience than I could do that, and also document the work. I’m more than happy to pay someone to do it:).
  4. Couldn't agree more! You should add "Indiana Jones: - This belongs in a museum" to your qoute list ;).
  5. Hi all! I recently aquired (from a small local auctionshouse at fairly decent price) a Leica II that has been cut open. Serial is 81200 and if I remove the bottom plate this serial is also scratched at the bottom as it should be. I did check with the Leica Archives and this camera was delivered as a normal Leica II, so it makes we wonder about the authenticity of the camera. I also have some doubts about the top plate engraving which looks a bit too modern compared to other Leica IIs and I from that period that I have seen. Of course the cut-away could have been made locally here at the military, school or just by the local dealer, but very hard to tell... So, is this camera genuine? Or has someone just tried to make a good forgery? I can take some more pictures of it if you'd like. The range is yellow as it should be and the camera, except from the top engraving, feels very genuine. If anyone would be able to authenticate it (of course for a fee), I would be more than happy to send out the camera. Regards, Joakim
  6. The lenses on the IIIg:S actually belongs to IIIf; all IIIg where delivered (as far as I know) with chrome (with tripple crown mark) Elmar 50 2.8. Nevertheless quite remarkable! The guy who owned them was a local collector without any off-spring, so the cameras are basically sold by the swedish state (Allmänna Arvsfonden).
  7. Sure, but I’m quite confident that it will take until at least M12 until we see IBIS, there is just not enough space in the camera today.
  8. Brass top, black paint and no logo. That‘s my bet. i would like to see: More RAM (bigger buffer) More internal memory
  9. Way back in 2007 the M8 sold for 40 000SEK here in Sweden, the M9 was introduced at 57000SEK (2009) whereas the M240 was actually cheaper at 54000SEK (2013, which might have been a currency effect at that time since the Swedish krona is free floating), M10 at 70 000 SEK (2017), M10-R 89000SEK (2020) and now M11 is 90790SEK (2022). At the same time we have of course had an inflation effect, and if we take the 2007 40000SEK as base, that would be: (on this site you can do the calculation yourself, the statistics are from the SCB, the official National statistical centre, https://www.scb.se/hitta-statistik/sverige-i-siffror/prisomraknaren/) 2007 40 000SEK 2009 41 262,96 SEK 2013 43 242,22 SEK 2017 44 354,38 SEK 2020 46 258,25 SEK 2021* 47 257,30 SEK *2022 numbers are not available yet So, compared to 2007, yes, Leica gear has become much more expensive. We are talking about the "base model" except for the M10-R. Of course one must also bear in mind that a 2007 M8 is of course not comparable to a 2022 M11, but it is still interesting to see the development. Also top models of Nikon and Canon have become "more expensive" maybe not exactly to the same extent as Leica gear: A D6 is 78000SEK, A 1DX 87000SEK. Another thing to consider is that the development of digital cameras was much faster 2007-2013 compared to today. An M240 compared to a M8 was a huge step in terms of ISO-improvement and image quality, whereas the M10 compared to the M11 is for most users maybe not such a big improvement for rel life usage (but this is a subjective value). Just my 2 cents ;).
  10. Am I the only one more curious about the new EVF than the M11 itself? Especially since it’s rumored to be compatible with the M10. The current one is not bad at all, but an updated version would definitely be very interesting!
  11. But think about all the poor collectors watching this from their favorite seat😛🤪
  12. There would most likely be something in Riksarkivet (the Swedish National Records), but since they are collecting all kinds of records, and only a small portion of their records are digitized to date, it would be difficult to find. Date and year always helps, I can see if I can search when I have some time, since it’s all in Swedish. As for serials: 1678246 is definitely a real one. It was sold first time to the “public” in 2005 at LP auction in Stockholm (auction 23), and with provenance from a military captain that had used it. But otherwise it might be difficult. Cameras are more well documented. Not only cameras and lenses got the triple crown engraving, I’ve seen it on both table top tripods and Leitz binoculars (even though Zeiss binoculars are more common with triple crown). 1678210 also likely real and sold by LP in 2014 with a black IIIg. As is 1667947, sold in 2010. The Swedish Army also used M-cameras in the 1970s and 1980s, but these where normal “civilian” version without any special engraving. Serials might be available in the records anyway. Brandt Optik lost the rights to Leitz in the middle of 1980:s, and company is since long defunct, so there is likely nothing to be found. But military records (which are declassified), should be available at Riksarkivet and they are usually very thorough.
  13. Which version of the 28? There is an updated version of the 28 which is really good (better? Than the summicron), otherwise it’s more about which FOV you prefer. The sharpest (and cheapest) 35 in the R-lineup is the Elmarit 35.
  14. You can always ask Leica, they where able to repair a similar damage on my apo- Elmarit and repaired the mount of my 35-70 f4 about 3 years ago. otherwise, I’d also ask DAG.
  15. As I have understood it, Leica Camera Ag had to stop using the black dot because of copyright infringement to Leica Microsystems GmbH, and this should be the reason why black dot is not available “from factory” anymore. My M8 Panda came with black dot, but I have also seen with red dot.
