  1. I used Rodenstock lenses and they were excellent and not crazy expensive on the used market I used the Apo Sironar Digital 55mm and 90mm and the 210mm Sironar S.
  2. Awesome thanks, that's really useful for me when shooting landscapes
  3. Quick question guys, I have an M246 now. I used to shoot with a Hasselblad X1D with an Actus tech camera set up, but I want something more mobile. I'm thinking of upgrading to the M10 Monochrom, mainly for really long exposures What I really liked about the Hasselblad though was in Live View mode, I could use the touch screen and easily check the corners at 100% to make sure I'm in focus (on a tripod of course) On the M246 you can zoom in to 100% but only in the center (unless I'm missing something basic). Can you check corners in Live View mode on the M10 monochrom? It's not a big deal but easier than shooting test shots, refocusing, etc
  4. Hmm, thanks everyone, really good info in here, this gives me a lot to think about. I can see how you could easily end up with an SL2. I like the idea of a Leica R APO-Telyt 3,4/180 with APO-Extender x 2, that could get me started and then if I keep going on the telephoto route, I'll have to look at an SL2 or something like that. thanks everyone!
  5. a.noctilux - just to confirm, to use the 400/6.8 I would need the R-M adapter and a Visoflex III? That's what I'm assuming
  6. Thanks very much, the Visoflex confused me a bit and I wasn't exactly sure.
  7. I have the Tele-Elmar-M 135MM f3.4, but I'd like to get something a little longer than 135mm. Does anyone have a recommendation? I'll mainly be using it on a tripod for landscapes. I'm thinking that maybe the 400mm f6.8 could work, I'll shoot it pretty stopped down anyways. Do you need a Visoflex adapter for that lens? I'm little confused as to what I'd actually need to mount on an M Monochrom 246 or M10
  8. Another option is a technical camera with a digital back. I just got an X1D and I’m thinking of getting the Cambo Actus view camera set up for it, to get the movements. I’m not sure if they offer something for the Leica S.
  9. Thanks, I think that’s it in a nutshell and that’s what I’ve learned. MF is really for large prints, etc which is what I’m interested in and that’s what I meant with my question.
  10. What I like about the X1D is the size. I do lanscapes and climb all over the place, so for me size is important and the X1D looks like roughly similar to an M240, at least the body the S007's all look like they're more in the $12k range. The S006 do look like they're around $5k. The lenses are a bit pricey though (not that the Hasselblad's are cheap but I'm finding some good deals). I just got an X1D for $5450 from Adorama. I figure that will let me get my feet wet with medium format in a small size, when the X2D comes out I'll look at that or maybe wait for the S008 Thanks for the help!
  11. Well I'm about to find out, X1D on the way... Thanks for the help guys, this helped me understand the difference a little bit better
  12. Have you tried the 50 APO on the M246? I wonder how that would compare to an X1D. I'm debating whether to get an X1D but one of the things I love about the M246 and the small Leica lenses I use is their light weight. I do landscapes and oftentimes hike up mountains, every gram counts! I suppose the X1D isn't that much bigger, but I use tiny Leica lenses (pre-ASPH 50 f/2, 28 f/2.8) and I clamber around waterfalls, up steep cliffsides, etc.
  13. A Leica T is a good idea, less risky too in case there's a problem. Did you have any problems with IR hot spots and M lenses?
  14. Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I knew there had to be some sort of physical effect going on
  15. No I never used MF or LF film cameras, I'm still fairly new to 'real' photography. I'm not really into shooting color, so it's more the resolution (although of course gray tones matter...). I shoot landscapes so I want the greatest ability to print large when needed. I'm really happy with the M246, but I'd like to understand what's happening physically with a larger sensor that permits improvements.
