  1. My first answer too would be La Maison du Leica, boulevard Beamarchais, but actually, that may depends on what you're looking for. There are two stores (the one situated boulevard Beaumarchais and the one in rue de la pompe) plus one booth in the departement store "Galeries Lafayette Homme". Size: The two stores are roughtly in the same ballpark in size, the one in the rue de la pompe being a bit larger, I believe. Luxury Items: The booth and the store in rue de la pompe might be more targeted at those markets, so if that's what you're looking for, they might be it. History: The traditional one is boulevard Beaumarchais (that's the main street for photo boutiques in Paris) Second hands: Definitely the boulevard Beaumarchais, no questions about that. Service for pros: Probably boulevard Beaumarchais, rue de la pompe, then the booth, in that order Aftersale service for repairs, etc.: That one is handled in another place, near the place de la nation. Hoping this helps, and wishing you a nice stay !
  2. I love rangefinders because... - The focus is where I've put it (and therefore I don't need to check on the lcd, cool!). - I'm there: the camera's way of keeping out of the limelight allows me to be part of the scene; to feel, view and shoot from inside, in a way that I can't imagine with any other kind of camera. I don't think rangefinders will disappear until something else comes which allow to shoot like this; because there always will be people valuing this way of shooting enough to make it worth for them (even at the current prices)...
  3. Here's my 2 cents contribution (my experience)... The X1's pocketability and low-light capabilities were what I was looking for, its lens quality and ease of control made it too good to resist for me two years ago, even if it was out of my initial budget. I haven't regretted it. Don't know for the other characteristics, but at least its ease of control remains unmatched - and that's an important factor when shooting! When asked by people liking my pics what would be a less costly alternative to take this kind of pictures, I initially directed them toward the Fujis. I since stopped because I could'nt feel good recommanding something which felt that plasticy in the hand and whose maker doesn't seem really honest about its real iso capability. (I also had occasionaly recommanded the DSC R1 at bargain prices, two years ago). Since then, I stopped watching this market and the X2 came, and now when asked, I recommand... ...trying a 2nd hand X1.
  4. 26 months and about 10k shoots after my purchase, not a single issue...
  5. Allow me to adjust my prediction: The mini-M is a camera with a lens. Unless it's the opposite, of course.
  6. After having read the thread, and even if I'm not that versed into the Leica culture, I think I'll dive into the fun too with my own guess, which I'll keep simple: M (M-mount FF), AF (no RF). Because that would fits what I perceive as Leica's goals: 1% marketshare... ...selling lenses (body canibalization is not an issue)... ...with evolution, not revolution (i.e. reusing existing technologies). The M is already surrounded by AF technology (both X and S are AF), and AF is a requirement to get that 1% marketshare, as the good RF-ready folks are far too little in numbers for that (hence the "M"aster meaning)... That would also be supported by the fact that I can see two explanations to that "all are Ms" picture: - It allows to nickname it "Mini-M" which is great to build expectations (that's working well!), - It helps prepare afficionados' spirits to the idea that a Leica M-mount body doesn't necesseraly have to equal RF anymore (even if the flagship body is likely to remain RF for a long time).

  8. I only have it since a pair of month, but I find myself increasingly taking it when I step out the door (hence my small bag) - except when I go to the grocery store (for now). I already would have missed the snow falling an evening in the streets of Paris, without this wonderfull bad habit.
  9. The small bag, for the 35mm lens (equ. FF). The Big bag, for the 50mm, about the right size for me. It's a tad bigger than I would prefer, but hey, it comes with the luxury of an extra space for one more battery on the other side!
  10. Brent, just in case, have you seen those ? L1001535 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Starry Night @ The Mausoleum | Flickr - Photo Sharing! moon and star | Flickr - Photo Sharing! There might be more somewhere in there: night sky - Flickr: Search Just my 2 cents... Your picture is jolly good by the way ! : )
  11. Street, portraits, urban night shoots, performing arts, landscapes, loved ones, and a bit of action for me... A tad out of topic: @Pragmatist: It's funny that you say that: of my urban night shoots, my favorite one was taken handheld! I realized it's because it was too risky to be worth the time for a proper tripod setting, but it was risky because a bit out of my traditional definition of a good picture, which is precisely why it's better than the others! (and there's a lot of noise, but it adds a welcomed sense of fragility to the picture). I'm increasingly thinking: if it's worthy of a proper setting, then maybe it's not really worthy... ...and starting to think that's precisely the essence of the M for me: to try to shoot what's better than worthy of a setup.
  12. I can't answer for the X2, but assuming it's not very far from the X1, the following might have some relevance : I was doing long exposures one night with the X1, and targeted the sky once, just for fun - to see what the result looks like. I'm suspecting the white from the lower right corner is a nearby street light. ISO 1600 - f/3.5 - 30s - unprocessed raw (only converted to jpeg for the forum)
  13. It's all there… S, M, M-E, X2 Paul Smith, X2 à la Carte, V-Lux 4, D-Lux 6, and the adapter for R lenses on the M... Leica Camera AG
  14. When it come to people in pictures, do you prefer the ones where they look at you right in the eye or when they're caught unaware in their normal activity / natural behavior ? For the former, favor Silver. For the latter, favor Black. And if you're really, really, I mean really into the former, there's always pink paint. That was my (cheapo) 2 cents...
