  1. When I want auto-focus on my SL, I use the Sigma DG DN lens that I have. It does a very good job. I presume the focal length closest to your desire will do just as well. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52818319970_9b0be87833_k_d.jpg When I want the magic of one of my M lenses, the enlarged view (press the joystick) works fine. Watch an edge near your desired focal point.
  2. A stretch, but still a 21mm. This is a Perar 21/4.5 at f/5.6, mounted on a Voigtlander Bessa film camera. https://live.staticflickr.com/4744/39131296105_06fb0c2ee4_o_d.jpg
  3. Old thread with new relevance for the recently announced S5ii. A few sample .rw2 files can be found on the Web. I tried the exiftool method; the program said: Error: No size tag for IFD0:RawDataOffset - p1.rw2
  4. Sigma 45/2.8 DG DN at f/5.6. Posted at full size so you can pixel peep the lens. I'm impressed. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52530348679_1e7e3e6ae7_o_d.jpg
  5. This is a full-size rendition of a sample DNG I found, downloaded, and processed in Raw Therapee then a little more in Picture Window Pro by Digital Light & Color. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51818423537_bcc031e25d_o_d.jpg It is only sample of one. The photographer might have done a good or bad job. That said, I too felt the camera did nothing special. I also found Jono Slack's images underwhelming: oversaturated and unnatural colors. I don't recall this weak a start with the M8, which was a fine camera when I had it, except that the IR leak, even with the filter, ruined too many shadow areas. https://live.staticflickr.com/5247/5215851316_099d2371f2_o_d.jpg I don't recall this weak a start with the M240, which was a fine camera when I had it. https://live.staticflickr.com/4894/43936744700_65a25b8893_o_d.jpg I don't recall this weak a start with the SL, which is a fine camera, here mounted with a Summicron-M 50mm version v. https://live.staticflickr.com/7901/46699720434_22f436747c_o_d.jpg
  6. If you know for sure you want version iii, go for one or the other. I'll just add that I had versions iv and v, had the same experience as TomB_tx, sold version iv, and gravitated to version v as the nearly permanent lens on the camera.
  7. Perar 21/4.5 on M240.
  8. If you can process one X1D or 907X shot to your satisfaction in Phocus, you can save a preset and re-use it; see the manual on the Adjustments Browser section of the program. And if you want to make a custom profile in place the default Hasselblad HNCS, see the section on Reproduction.
  9. Concur and note that it is a pleasure to use M-mount lenses on the X1Dii. The electronic shutter does exclude some shots, but surprisingly few in general use. The various generations of Leica M lenses give you a wide range of renderings.
  10. Silkypix can often give you good results. It has the basic exposure and color controls to do the job. It does not have a brightness slider; instead, you move the contrast center of the histogram and adjust the amount of contrast. This interesting approach makes you look at the histogram. Some of the terms are quirky. Tint is called color deflection, for example. The help on the website is in Japenglish. I use a moderate power Windows 10 computer; the program is speedy enough, at least for individual image work. I don't do massive batch processing. I never found a place to specify the camera color profile. When I had a .dcp or .icc profile for a camera that I wanted to use, I couldn't. So I stopped using the program. Occasionally, though, it is good for a comparison with the result from another raw developer program, and winds up being preferable. No matter what raw developer I use, no matter how much it tries to provide everything you will need, at least for global adjustments, I always export a .tif into Picture Window Pro from Digital Light & Color. It is a general purpose substitute for Photoshop. This shot went through Silkypix and PWP.
  11. Presumably most of us change the white balance as needed to get it right - right as we see it. After that, I manipulate specific colors. Some tree leaves might be an ugly yellow-green. A secondary object in the scene might attract too much attention with its bold color. I "fix" them. Picture Window Pro from Digital Light & Color, a photographer's substitute for Photoshop, has a great Selective Color Correction tool; some of you like the tool in Capture One. Can you tell which color(s) were treated this way?
  12. I almost never shoot a 35mm lens at f/1.4. Can get all the bokeh I want at f/2.8 or f/2. About the only situation for f/1.4 is when I absolutely need the light and can live with the extreme slice that is in focus. The rendering of a particular f/1.4 lens at tighter apertures can be delightful, of course. Here a pre-aspherical Summilux 35 at f/11:
