  1. there is all kind of info there, if we would understand what the codes mean.. But you may find as well info about converstions - camera 9758, possibly still IA when shiped to the factory left Leica as model III in January 1939. Another one is 9756 converted from I to II. An a remark written in the line 9752 says that it was "opened without authorisation". German "unbefugt geöffnet", I read it as non authorised person opened it. Another remark says "Filmreste". But majority of entries are codes only
  2. correction to one dot in the list of Dr Bawendi. In contrary to entry in his table saying that one dot may be found occasionaly up to 70300 I found many as well with much higher serial, the highest i found was 779712. Mechanical construction of wind knob changed with 778200, below this number screws with one dot and slot were interchangeable. Even within the prototype and inital batches of M3 (700xxx) both variants may be found, however slot appears more often
  3. closing curtain has a small pin, it shall go between the rails (right photo). It your case it looks like the pin hokked on the rail where the arrow points and thus curtain cannot fully close. Filmn transport if blocked until 2nd curtain fully closes and of course release as well, this is how the Leica shutter is built. Open back door, take the curtain between two finder in front andf back (approx where the blue dot is) and pull few mm to the left, like arrow shows. Push a bit towards back and release your finger. Curtain shall close and transpost shall be released. It may happen that you might "help" the curtain to fully close, ich such case, again with your 2 fingers pull it a bit but to the right. Then check if the shutter works fine. It could be that is was just one of. But if this repeats camera needs to be opened.
  4. this is not FSU based (Zorki/FED), neither Japaneese. Too many details are Leica genuine. Was however heavily modified, not always with genuine details. Leica 78284 was model II, black paint with nickeled elements. very mch rounded corners on top plate (orange arrow) suggest that it was originally black painted and polished. Green arrowed screw is not original. More yellowish lower part under slow speeds dial looks to me like nickel plated. Top cover, although with not correct serial number is correct for chromed III, this shape was used until approx 1937. Engravings are deep so top cover was not black painted but chromed.
  5. Pierere, rewind button is a bit unusual, with stright riffling. I believe I saw just few like this
  6. Wilson, you can see the number only after taking lens apart. Here is Elmar belonging to IC 65663. The lowest Elmar number I found is 71973 on IA 58816. In the time of IA 58816, in parallel as well IC were produced, therefore the optic of Elmar was numbered. One of the last VIDOMs contains an article with more details
  7. does the lens focus properly?`DOF has no "0" , lens seems to be not standartized. Otherwise - if lens is coupled witth rangefinder then it is stzandartized as well
  8. I believe that your Elmar has serial number inside on the lens barrel, most probably around 87xxx
  9. …I am traveling now and cannot post no photos…. if other advices fail then take off the top cover. Directly beneath accessory shoe you will find a screw and cca 1cm to the right another one. Losen both screw, 2 turn counterclockwise. Remove all other screw holding fron plate and 3 other on the silvered ring. Afterwards you may take off the front plate together with the support bracket. And now it should be easier to separate front plate and bracket
  10. Hello, short explanation - inertion of sprocket drum or (most probably) you rotate your finger a bit when release button is depressed. You may reproduce it anytime (without a film) by rotating a finger. In similar way, if this happens keep release button down and rotate it clockwise. Technical explanation: - left picture is in released status, notice position of two pins. When you press release button the silver wheel goes down and rotates (almost full circle) and stops like on the picture. Right picture shows the status when release stays down. By rotating speed dial you rotate a bit sprocket drum and the black pin does not block the silver anymore, release button goes up. Similar effect (rotating sprocket drum) you may produce when you rotate a bit the release button. When loaded with film this effect does not happen, sprocket drum is tensioned by film.
