I've not seen mention of

Jacques-Henri Lartigue

above, a master of composition, and has

Man Ray

been mentioned?  Also,

Linda McCartney

made some really good B&W photos, particularly of her family.

At the risk of being controversial, I must say that while Salgado's photographs of workers were very good, I was most disappointed by his images of the Amazon.  I mean if the caption describes of a brilliant green forest and a flash of colour as a parrot flies by and you take a B&W image of it ...  Still I suppose that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Lartigue was unusual in that his most recognized work was from his boyhood ( even though he had a long career as photographer and painter).

Man Ray was mentioned.

I have read through most of these pages and learned of many photographers I didn't know. What a treasure.

Oddly, I didn't see mention of Charles Jones. His photography has always inspired me, and the story of the discovery of his work is wonderful.

Google image search examples here.

(and forgive me if he's been mentioned and I missed it)

Just to add to the impressive list, some Spanish photographers (in addition to the aforementioned Manu Álvarez Bravo and Cristina García Rodero):
José Ortiz Echagüe (father of Spanish pictorialism and also a very interesting life).
Chema Madoz
Isabel Muñoz
Gervario Sánchez (see "Mined Lives")
Gabriel Cualladó
Paco Ontañón
Rafael Sanz Lobato
Alberto Schommer
Joan Fontcuberta
Ramón Masats
Juan Dolcet del Amo
Leonardo Cantero
Fernando Gordillo
Jorge Rueda
I apologise to the many photographers whom my ignorance prevents me from mentioning.

George Hoyningen-Huene.

I dont think he was mentioned here but was in another thread and his book arrived yesterday.

Mind you, he was photographing before colour was an option - does that make him a B&W photographer?
