Why is the X1's handgrip optional?

I was reading about the X1 on Leica's website where it says:

Single-handed operation? No problem at all with the hand grip. The hand grip ensures that the fingers of the right hand have a significantly better grip.

If it's so significantly better, then why make it optional? Why not attach it permanently for everyone? Can anyone help me understand Leica's philosophy on not having the handgrip vs. making a "significantly better grip"?

Not everyone wants one. This satisfies both camps.

Companies and dealers make most of their margins on accessories, not the actual sale of the body.

Just wait till we see the pricing of the brightline finder. It better not be 25% of the cost of the camera.
