Guest Essemmlee Posted September 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mr Leica007, recently of this forum, has definitively posted a price of £4900 over on the GetDPI forum where is received gratefully. Not sure of his source, but he certainly is. So that's that then. All sorted now. No need for further discussion until the first M9 goes wrong. Advertisement Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Hi Guest Essemmlee, Take a look here M9 Pricing confirmed!!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bill Posted September 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2009 Not sure of his source... Forgive me if I regard this "confirmation" with a degree of scepticism... I'll wait for the formal announcement. Regards, Bill
andybarton Posted September 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2009 (edited) His actual words are "Seems like, the price of Leica M9 would be £4900. But obviously I cannot divulge the source of my information." "Seems like", is hardly definitive Erm... that's just the price in Euros from the French leak, divided by the current exchange rate. I could have told you that last week, if you'd asked. Anywhere in the £4,900 - £4,999 range is where it will sit, by my guess. Leica will want to hedge the exchange rate movements between € and £ for a while. Edited September 7, 2009 by andybarton
UliWer Posted September 7, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 7, 2009 Someone who is not sure of his source but certainly sure of himself doesn't seem to me as someone whom i would pay any price. You are right, there is no need to discuss this. I better wait until I see the price tag at a Leica dealer.
footnoteblog Posted September 7, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 7, 2009 I don't know what slice of the poor photographer's market I represent, but I'm going to have to stick with my M8 if that's true... Anyone know what the M3-M7 bodies cost in today's dollars when they were released?
RockyIII Posted September 7, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 7, 2009 That's $8,000 US. Whew! Rocky
chris_livsey Posted September 7, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) That's twice what I paid for an M8 (new UK).
andybarton Posted September 7, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 7, 2009 £4,900 = £4,260, excluding UK VAT, currently 15% That equals $6,957, excluding all your purchase taxes.
johnbuckley Posted September 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 7, 2009 That's $8,000 US. Whew! Rocky Minus the VAT, which in the UK is... 19%?
adan Posted September 7, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 7, 2009 RockyIII - you do realize European listed prices have sales tax included (as Value Added Tax) - often up to 19%? As mentioned - this is the usual stupidity of applying google's exchange-rate calculator freehand without understanding global economics. Someone has listed all the "predictions" regarding the M9 (or nonexistence thereof) on another thread. I've decided to keep track of, and repost, all the "predictions" of the M9 dollar price once Leica USA revealed the actual price. Including my own - $6,

aesop Posted September 7, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 7, 2009 ...cripes, that's a lot of film. And/or serious glass.
timd. Posted September 7, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 7, 2009 did you expect it to be cheaper than the m8?
adan Posted September 7, 2009 Share #14 Posted September 7, 2009 BTW - I have not totally accepted the €5500 (including VAT) price. It's one of those things that developed a life of its own after it appeared on one dealer's web site (no one mentions the "price subject to change" caveat on the same site). It's altogether possible that we are in for an ugly surprise come 9/9, and the M9 may cost €6500 (VAT incl) and $8000 U.S. and £5,800 (or however the math comes out). Until Leica says what the price is, we are assuming... But that will be a real global price, and not a poor use of currency calculations. arthury Posted September 7, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 7, 2009 That's $8,000 US. Whew! Rocky The price of a NIkon D3X ... hmmmm ... actually, it is higher than the market price of a D3X.
adan Posted September 7, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 7, 2009 Arthur - it is also wrong - so it really doesn't matter.
beamon Posted September 7, 2009 Share #17 Posted September 7, 2009 £4,900 = £4,260, excluding UK VAT, currently 15% Either your calculator or mine is off, Andy. Mine says that £4900.00 minus 15% is: £4165.00.
andybarton Posted September 7, 2009 Share #18 Posted September 7, 2009 Tax isn't a discount. The £4,900 INCLUDES 15% added on to the net price of £4,260. BTW, VAT in the UK will be going up to AT LEAST 17.5% again on January 1st 2010. Rumours around that it might be 20%
Philippe D. Posted September 7, 2009 Share #19 Posted September 7, 2009 Either your calculator or mine is off, Andy. Mine says that £4900.00 minus 15% is: £4165.00. Your is! Because it's 4260£ (without tax) + 15% (tax) = 4899£ (with tax) (It's always quite difficult)
