J_Brittenson Posted November 18, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 18, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just discovered another potential filter option for shooting stage work... I've used a KB15 with DSLRs for shooting events and was a bit concerned about stacking with a 486. But on a fluke I looked over the spectral sensitivity of the B+W KB filters: And lo and behold, unlike all the other KB filters, the KB15 (80A) attenuates IR! So now I'm hoping this (~2.5 stops) will be enough to either make it go away or at least make it negligible. AND I can continue shooting with a KB15 without stacking filters! The KB15 will most likely remove any residual IR. HOWEVER, the fact that you lose visible light will drastically impact exposure.

HOWEVER, the fact that you lose visible light will drastically impact exposure. Yeah, but I turn up the ISO one stop to compensate. The reason for the KB15 to begin with is that floodlighting is usually very high contrast and I'd rather give up a stop worth of noise (ISO 400 vs 200 with an f/2 lens) rather than a stop of dynamic range (1-stop WB adjustment). sdai Posted November 18, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 18, 2006 Hi, Jan, I understand you're talking about the KB15 for stage shooting here but I'd take the chance to ask you a slightly O/T question ... from the samples various individuals have displayed here, while the 486 could correct the magenta cast, it also introduces a weired greenish cast on almost everything, why is it like that? grober Posted November 18, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 18, 2006 I've shot a fair amount of indoor activity with KB12 and KB20 filters on both the 50/1.5 Nokton and the 75/2 Summicron. One of my great hopes for the M8 was to eliminate ALL filters and pick up some speed in the bargain. This hope is not yet realized, of course, but it's still there. -g
