The Woolworth Building, which many people think is the first skyscraper (it is not) is a lovely treasure of close to 100 years of age. All this time later it is still among the two dozen highest buildings in the city. This is shot from Tribeca, probably around Duane and West Broadway, about 9:45 Saturday morning.

A very beautiful building, well captured. I recall visiting New York one time and being in a building which overlooked or at least was parallel to the wonderful gothic, almost church-like crenellations and being memerised by its magnificence. It is amazing to think that the brand has disappeared but the building lives on.

Although not the first, it was the tallest building in the world for many years. Stu, that building is made of sand, much of it from the North Shore of Long Island, around Northport. It's not blue, but a dark cream to light brown. For me, it remains one of the most beautiful elements of the skyline. It can be seen almost everywhere once you're below 14th Street. It towers over City Hall and the view from the little park there takes you back almost 100 years.
