JLV Posted July 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Today in Arles I had the great privilege to see and listen to this great man who opened a dedicated photography exhibition. he was born in 1910 and started photography when he was 10. This man has still unbelievable intellectual capacities and explained during one and half hour the different contexts and stories around famous pictures he took. I will never forget that moment and keep this pictures as a memory. Here are four of them. All the best, Jean-Luc

stuny Posted July 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2009 Jean-Luc - Terrific story and series. I most especially like the detail, selective focus, light, color and immediateness of #2.
Michiel Fokkema Posted July 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2009 He is my hero. IMHO he is at least as good as HCB. I just adore his work. Cheers, Michiel Fokkema
roguewave Posted July 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 9, 2009 Jean-Luc, a fine celebration of a titan. Looks like he enjoyed himself.
cocker Posted July 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 9, 2009 Jean-Luc, What a privilege. I particularly like the last one. He is a wonderful photographer - one of my heroes along with Boubat & Doisneau. The Germans might make the best music (apart from Ravel & Debussy) but French photographers are the best!
michali Posted July 9, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 9, 2009 Jean-Luc- Wonderful series of a great man. I really like #2.

JLV Posted July 9, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted July 9, 2009 Stuart,Michiel,Ben,Keith,Mike and Kay, thanks a lot for your nice comments. I will go back to Arles tomorrow afternoon and will try to bring back good pics. During these days of the opening week of the "Rencontres photographiques d'Arles" you have ten photographers per square meters. (I love it !) I saw few M8, M6 and MP yesterday and a lot of Dlux4 too. There were a Leica stand and I could handle and play with a functionning S2 and bring back a commercial booklet of it . (will become a collector for sure:D) Warms regards, Jean-Luc

thompsonkirk Posted July 10, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 10, 2009 Thank you for capturing these & showing them to us. He's a wonderful photographer who didn't get as much attention in the US as his contemporaries. He has a strong social conscience. Kirk
