I have been tracking my D2`s repair on the Leica website and the latest message I have say`s "Shipment in process."

Does anyone know if that is the final status and that delivery is imminent. Or will I get a more specific message or date?

Just want to make sure that I am at home when it arrives!

Speaking of repair, what are say, the top five general Digilux 2 failures experienced by users here (sensor failures aside), and what would one expect to pay out of pocket in the US for these repairs?

Just wondering - thanks much!

The rubber grip peeling off. That's about it for my Digilux 2...

The silver paint on top and bottom can also rub off, but I cover mine with black tape so it hasn't happened to mine yet.

Send it in for a fix. The rubber on mine looks like brand new and they did a paint job of some sort because there's paint again where there hasn't been for long time :D

I didn't send it in for that purpose, but they fixed it within the quote (which was about 140 Euro in total). So do that, get all the small things checked and fixed, and you will fall in love all over again with the D2.

And do it with all your stuff, actually. I've sent in almost all the rest of my gear for check and service because they did such a great job on the D2 and the R9 which are totally in focus and perfect as new. And that's how the gear should be.

The rubber grip replacement is free of charge,.

Say WHAT? I sent the following message to Leica in NJ on June 27 2009:

"My Digilux 2 has areas where the rubber covering has separated from the body. How much would it cost to have this repaired?"

and received this reply:

"Roughly speaking you could be looking at a range of $75.00-125.00 A complete servicing of the camera runs approximately $225.00 and would include the necessary replacement rubber parts."

Who at Leica authorized a free repair on the covering?

I think repair of rubber, paint and other stuff is part of the turnaround at Leica, whenever you send in a Digilux 2 for repair, change of sensor, etc.

Sending it in for the rubber alone I'm not sure is free, but sending it in for other repairs it seem to be fixed and is not specified on the quote or invoice as a paid service.

On mine, the markings on the aperture ring crumbled away. When I took it back to Classic Camera for return to Milton Keynes, one of the staff told me he'd had the same problem.

I walked mine into leica in NJ., showed them the separation of the rubber grip. unfortunately the part was back ordered and i waited for months. Finally the part came in and I walked my camera over again, i was able to wait for the repair to be completed - it took about as long as a chicken salad sandwich and 2 cups of coffee at the local dinner to repair.

At a later date I had the sensor replaced (free ofcourse) and because the top plate was scratched from the strap i decided to put $150 into the camera to make it look and work as good as new.
