fotografr Posted November 10, 2006 Share #21 Posted November 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Guy--You must have found the only supply of those filters in the USA. I've been calling all over and checking web sites trying to find a B+W 486 UV-IR Cut filter in E39 for my 35/2 asph, and nobody has it. Any hints? Advertisement Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Hi fotografr, Take a look here Cut Filter: Must See This. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 10, 2006 Share #22 Posted November 10, 2006 Well it is tough to find but try Popflash, Camera West, Adorama, calumet, samys. Even places that deal in Astronomy. This is very popular for them
andy_mclean Posted November 10, 2006 Share #23 Posted November 10, 2006 Guy, how does the filter affect exposure? Come to think of it.... does the exposure meter respond to nIR too?... I can't really think of all the ramifications of this right now... But it's good to see the filters work. Best wishes- Andy
bill vann Posted November 10, 2006 Share #24 Posted November 10, 2006 maxmax.com deal in IR and has all sorts of cutoff filters, some tocutoff ir in cameras that have had their hot mirror removed. great to deal with, did my canon 350D ir conversion. bill vann
Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 10, 2006 Share #25 Posted November 10, 2006 Andy i have not noticed any exposure effect at all it maybe in certain high IR lighting that may change a little. I honestly don't think our meter measures IR light and only the visable light, need a engineer to confirm that.
bill vann Posted November 10, 2006 Share #26 Posted November 10, 2006 it likely does read some of it but as there is a fairly large amount of the IR being filtered out it is likely of no consequence. bill
Jamie Roberts Posted November 10, 2006 Share #27 Posted November 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey! I just found out I might be getting mine today! I looked at max.max.com but they don't seem to have 39mm or 46mm filters (I'm assuming E46 and E39 is 39mm and 46mm).
steve_l Posted November 10, 2006 Share #28 Posted November 10, 2006 Would somebody try this with a wide angle (21 or wider)? A thread on DPReview by a guy says that if only works head-on, you get a color cast a high angles..... "The lens filters are not going to work too well with WA lenses. See I remember why. It all came back to me....: Leica Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review This is probably why Leica is saying that their temp fix will require coded lenses." Guest guy_mancuso Posted November 10, 2006 Share #29 Posted November 10, 2006 I tried on the 35mm lux . i do have a zeiss 21mm . let me try it real quick. Don't have a filter big enough for my 24mm yet
ho_co Posted November 10, 2006 Share #30 Posted November 10, 2006 (I'm assuming E46 and E39 is 39mm and 46mm). Jamie-- You're right. Leica's designation. E46 = Einschraub 46 = screw-in 46. That is in distinction to something we don't see today, A46 = Aufsteck 46 = press-on 46. --HC
sean_reid Posted November 10, 2006 Share #31 Posted November 10, 2006 Sean is also getting some of these today and since i did the inside light from daylight maybe he could try the outside ones until I get a chance to do it. I am sure he will see this request. Hey Guy, They're here but I've got just two hours to test them quickly before leaving for an out of state shoot. Am very happy to see your results so far. I'll do an article about this next week and should be able to get back to the forum on Monday. My own response to this is mount the filters and full speed ahead. When the longer term solution comes from Leica, I'll be happy for it. Till then I have pics to make with this sweetie. Cheers, Sean

robbegibson Posted November 10, 2006 Share #40 Posted November 10, 2006 OK, time to take it indoors. Many of the problem images I've seen posted and all the problems I've encountered with mine have been indoors with tungsten light. Thanks for testing, though.
