gvaliquette Posted June 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted June 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all: Can you collectors explain what this contraption is and how it works! Schneider Betavaron Macro Vario lens 3?10/0.08 Leica S - eBay (item 350217096625 end time Jul-23-09 05:42:24 PDT) It looks really bizarre! Thanks. Advertisement Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Hi gvaliquette, Take a look here Schneider Betavaron. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted June 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted June 24, 2009 (edited) From a first look, this is NOT a photo lens: I think that the "Leica" allusion in the ad is completely out of topic (even if the screw mount could be indeed a 39x1...): for me this motorized lens is part of some scientific (medical ?) apparatus . "Betavaron" seems also to resemble me something about X-Rays or similar... Edited June 24, 2009 by luigi bertolotti
doubice Posted June 24, 2009 Share #3 Posted June 24, 2009 Betavaron was Schneider's designation for lenses used on movie cameras. This one seems to have had two Faulhaber coreless motors installed, probably for focusing and aperture control. Apart from apparently having a Leica Screw Mount, it has nothing to do with Leica. Best, Jan

Best, Jan Gosh... you're surely right.... I think that my vague idea about X-Rays apparats originated from some confusion on the name/term "Bevatron" or so...
