SteveYork Posted June 16, 2009 Share #21 Â Posted June 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) There was a similar thread recently -- how many and why? I have four now, but want to limit myself to three, simply based on need, and I don't really like to own stuff I don't use. Being an amateur, I really only have need of two for family and friends, and travel. For many years, I used only a rangefinder (and kept a spare one for dark days, but never used). It's been only recently that I've accumulated three SLRs for an upcoming handful of nature trips, and I'm trying to figure out which of these I will keep. Â So I have one rangefinder now and three SLRs, which is odd, because in the last 15 years, I've done all my shooting with rangefinders.
Advertisement Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Hi SteveYork, Take a look here How many bodies. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Marty Posted June 16, 2009 Share #22 Â Posted June 16, 2009 Then no doubt you will surely have taken some superb photos; could you bear to point me towards any of them in the photo fora? I'm ashamed to say that I'm completely unfamiliar with your work. That is a bit harsh, no? Â I prefer my M8 over a "pocket camera" for the same reason, even though I am sure others like you will produce superior images. Everyone knows it is the photographer not the camera. Â To stay on topic: 2 M8.2's. Sometimes it's convenient, sometimes it isn't.
vertekijker Posted June 16, 2009 Share #23 Â Posted June 16, 2009 I carry one extra M8 body, without a lens on it. I have had an M8 break down on two occasions in the past years - the extra body is my insurance against such an event. ----------------------- Frans

ddp Posted June 16, 2009 Share #26 Â Posted June 16, 2009 Had 3, no need for that personally. When it's a paying job - 2 bodies in case of failure. But since most of M / film work is for personal projects - I sometimes simply put one lens on the camera and live with it. Forces me to strip things down to the basics and shoot. I rarely kick myself for not having brought the entire kit.
SteveYork Posted June 16, 2009 Share #27 Â Posted June 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Traveling you really should have two also. I use the mechanical Leicas, and over 15 years I've never had any problems, but I'm convinced if I was on a long trip, with only one camera, then something would go wrong. That's just my type of luck. It's like insurance -- you only need it when you don't have it.

Anyway as I mentioned before two bodies allow me to do away with a bag and that is definitely less in my book (and for my shoulders too). Furthermore a bag is far more appealing to a thief than two old banged up farts of old looking cameras with worned out lenses. Anyway I generally measure something else... mustafasoleiman Posted June 16, 2009 Author Share #31  Posted June 16, 2009 Dear moderator  Why has this post been moved to this mysterious "Customer Forum"? I would have thought that the number of bodies (in my case three M8s) is just as relevant to the M8 forum as the say... VC 50 1.1 post... or the "where to buy a 24 lux in HK" post...  I am at a loss. Steve Ash Posted June 16, 2009 Share #35 Â Posted June 16, 2009 I agree to disagree. Nevertheless, I very much follow your approach on the main topic of having more than one body. Â Kind regards Steve

mustafasoleiman Posted June 16, 2009 Author Share #39 Â Posted June 16, 2009 2 M6TTL bodies,2 R8 bodies, with DMRs attached... Â It seems that most people who need to rely on their kit have two bodies... what is interesting is that then the number tends to jump from two to four, rather than three. Â Now my next question is how do you use all these bodies? Â I have one M8 with a 28 (my always-on-me setup), the second in order of use/importance is an M8 with 75, then if I travel or on a project I will carry a third M8 with a cv12 and a 180 in my pocket. The only other thing I carry on me are two spare batteries. Â How do you do it?
