SteveP Posted June 2, 2009 Share #41 Posted June 2, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) How can Leica expect to compete in the cutthroat digital camera business if it takes them two years to effect a simple firmware update? (SDHC - announced at the same Photokina as the M8). Why has Leica abandoned the reportage photographer? By this I mean there are no "failsafe" power backups for the M8 when used away from developed-world electrical supplies. Why is Leica wasting resources on yet another orphan loser "system" (S2) when they are barely able to produce a viable digital camera at all? Isn't the new Micro Olympus gong to provide a great body to use M lenses on? Has Leica got any new lenses for the Olympus? OK - since the "partnership" is with Panasonic, how about some nice glass for the amazing GH-1? Thank heavens Cosina Voigtlander made a decent 12mm lens. (OK - not really a question)

Which they are with the S2, R10 and M systems.
Turbo Telyt Jim Posted June 2, 2009 Share #43 Posted June 2, 2009 Please! Any willingness to return to building the R-system cameras and lenses? I, and many others I am sure, expected to see an R-X (R-ten) full-frame digital camera, capable of competing with the Canons and Nikons of this world. When choosing an SLR system (not too long ago), I realised a moderately priced Canon or Nikon was half-way to owning a Leica (for cost) and the lenses I wanted were the same regardless of the body - specialist macro-lenses, etc. Top of the range bodies are about the same price - I wanted the Leica!!! Leica cameras have not let me down in any way - the calibration of the exposure meter and the image processing of digital images is where Leica excels AND where other makers let themselves down. With Leica it is always about the end result. I really do want to see a 35mm-sized, full-framed DSLR, for R-lenses. A medium-format sized S-system camera cannot compete for specialist macro and/or telephoto - or relative price. The lenses and accessories required would be colossally-huge and grossly expensive. Oh! And keep the R8 design and compatability with the R8 accessories. I love the feel and design of that camera!
holott Posted June 2, 2009 Share #44 Posted June 2, 2009 Low noise with high ISO really usable on M8. Thanks!
sumfatt Posted June 3, 2009 Share #45 Posted June 3, 2009 I bought my Digilux 3 under special offer as I do own various Leica equipment. Is there still any similar offer (at 10% discount) as I am most keen to acquire the Digilux 4.
harrisfoto Posted June 3, 2009 Share #46 Posted June 3, 2009 Does Leica have any formal and/or informal programs with photojournalism organizations, such as "National Prwess Photographers Association", to support and encourage the use of Leica cameras in photojournalism? How does Leica support the use of its cameras in photography schools, such as the International Center of Photography in NYC? Has Leica considered expanding its support of photography book publication, to reinforce it marketing efforts?

NZDavid Posted June 3, 2009 Share #48 Posted June 3, 2009 One more occurred to me: Who does Leica see as its main buyers? Pros, amateurs, long-time users? How important is it to attract new buyers and what is it doing about it?
kengurs Posted June 3, 2009 Share #49 Posted June 3, 2009 Hello, What about software upgrade or return to factory 1.0 for D-Lux4; after installing version 1.2 which is said to improve white balance / auto focus, the auto balance seems to be completely wrong in some cases of ambient lighting (also with manual balance settings). I'll say part of Leica magic here is gone.. Best regards, Aksels
lars_bergquist Posted June 3, 2009 Share #50 Posted June 3, 2009 My own personal questions regarding the M system: -- Can we have some real weatherproofing on the next model? -- Can we have a better signal-to-noise ratio on the next model? -- Can we have a digital M that does not feel like a M5 when we hold it? In other words, a body in approximately the same envelope as the M6 (with the exception of the monitor assembly of course) -- Can we have an auto exposure lock that can lock an entire sequence of frames, until we unlock it (and please do not tell me about guesswork 'compensation' via the main menu ... it stinks. I want a 'AE LOCK/AE UNLOCK lever.) -- Can we have a large-capacity battery pack, replacing the baseplate? -- Can we have live view, for those odd occasions? squarenegs Posted June 3, 2009 Share #51 Posted June 3, 2009 (edited) Will Leica continue to support the 4/3 format? If so, will this include cameras with optical viewfinders, not just EVF types? Has Leica considered adding the M8 to the 'a la carte' product programme? Best regards to all on the Forum Edited June 3, 2009 by squarenegs
Sandokan Posted June 3, 2009 Share #52 Posted June 3, 2009 Will Leica build a small size (compact) large sensor camera with a fixed lens? Umpteenth support for Jaap's request about R series. How long will Leica support existing R - eg batteries for the DMR? Will Leica follow Zeiss and make lenses for other camera bodies? acottag Posted June 3, 2009 Share #53 Posted June 3, 2009 Hello! I watched the videos provided by L-Forum and was rejoiced, impressed and cleared about some doubts I had before posting the following questions: .Is Leica planning to continue to make film based SLR cameras? .Is Leica planning to continue to make manual focus lens for film based SLR cameras? .Is Leica planning to make a mechanical SLR camera body? Kind regards.
ynp Posted June 3, 2009 Share #54 Posted June 3, 2009 Will Leica build a new modern Visoflex-R Auto Focus module to be used with the M9? I own the Sinar-M modular system and the Sinaron AF reflex module allow me to use all manual Hasselblad-V and four Sinaron AF lenses. The same kind of a solution will let people use their R lenses on M cameras. Yevgeny
eliot smith Posted June 4, 2009 Share #55 Posted June 4, 2009 My query is this , as there are so many old M mount film bodies around are Leica going to devolop a digital back or insert so they can be used as both film and digital cameras, ie a digital sensor that can be easily placed inside the film chamber and removed when you want film. Is this possible
andybarton Posted June 4, 2009 Share #56 Posted June 4, 2009 Eliot That's just not possible. There are no electronics in most Ms, and no space to fit a sensor in the body either. If you have seen a DMR, you will understand the challenges that they faced, and this was with an electronic R body as the host.

earleygallery Posted June 4, 2009 Share #59 Posted June 4, 2009 Can we have 100% more at 50% less cost, but with 0% impact on quality? Seriously - how about some LTM lenses - there are plenty of LTM users out there after all.
marknorton Posted June 5, 2009 Share #60 Posted June 5, 2009 Leica is just a member of the club and does not build 4/3 cameras (any more). Not that it ever did, of course... "supply" is a more appropriate term than "build". You can bet they had a big party when the last Digilux 3 was shipped to its hapless owner...
