Advertisement Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Hi pauledell, Take a look here A Memorial to past history. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
elansprint72 Posted May 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2009 Russian? It looks somehow captive here on its plinth; a shame that all tanks are not on plinths, imho.
jaapv Posted May 26, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 26, 2009 I find the B&W conversion a bit greyish. A black point and a steeper gradation would have added drama.
barnack Posted May 26, 2009 Share #4 Posted May 26, 2009 Great detail in this shot.
stuny Posted May 26, 2009 Share #5 Posted May 26, 2009 Paul - Excellent angle and detail. As Jaap suggests, a bit of punching up might make it more dramatic. Jaap - US tank. I built a model of it when I was about 13.
pauledell Posted May 26, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted May 26, 2009 Pete The marking in the white star is a peace symbol which could be mistaken for the hammer and cycle. Thanks for your comment. Barnack Thanks for your kind remarks. Jaap and Stuart I agree with your suggestion and comments. I have made a revision. How's this? jaapv Posted May 26, 2009 Share #7 Posted May 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Better. You could try some vignetting too.
louloumum Posted May 26, 2009 Share #8 Posted May 26, 2009 Paul, A really nice shot ! BTW: Did you ever consider shooting in the Dynamic B&W mode with the D-Lux 4 ?
pauledell Posted May 26, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted May 26, 2009 Jaap, I will try that sometime. Thaks for the suggestion. Marie-Louise. Thanks for your kind words. To be honest, I really never considered it. Per your suggestion, I will be compelled to try this very soon. Thanks again. Paul
pauledell Posted May 27, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted May 27, 2009 Jaap, More revisions. I think this may help by darkening the sky in the background. I do appreciate your helpful suggestions. Paul
Max Alfy Posted May 27, 2009 Share #11 Posted May 27, 2009 Paul, how about adding a selective sharpening (380/0.7/4) to the monster ? Max
vdb Posted May 27, 2009 Share #12 Posted May 27, 2009 Excellent Paul, each version improved. I enjoy Dynamic B&W on the DL4 and would give it a try.
pauledell Posted May 27, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted May 27, 2009 Max Thanks for your improvement. I appreciate your contribution. Virgil Thanks for your words of encouragement. I appreciate them. Paul
jaapv Posted May 29, 2009 Share #14 Posted May 29, 2009 (edited) A lot better, but I think Max overdid the sharpening a bit. We are starting to see the effects of working on small Jpegs now, look how clean the original file looks in comparison. But the general idea is good, do it in LR or in a large PS file and it will be perfect. Edited May 29, 2009 by jaapv
pauledell Posted May 30, 2009 Author Share #15 Posted May 30, 2009 Jaap, Thanks for your comments (and advice). I appreciate them. You are correct. I should make revisions on the origional tiff file in PS then make a new jpeg file? Sounds right.
Michael-IIIf Posted June 4, 2009 Share #16 Posted June 4, 2009 WWII tank preserved I don't think so. I think it is an M60A1, entered service in 1960. M60 Patton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Stuart, we might have built the same model in our teens; I remember building the Tamiya kit of the M60A2. Mine didn't finish as well as this guy's M60A2 Page M
pauledell Posted June 5, 2009 Author Share #17 Posted June 5, 2009 Michael, Thank you. You are correct. After I posted the picture origionally, I went back to the location where it rests and the accompanying plaque bears this out. Paul
jplomley Posted June 5, 2009 Share #18 Posted June 5, 2009 Paul, after all the modifications posted, one thing rings true....you captured the essence of the image. Thats more than half the job. The rest is just fiddling about in post. Well seen and captured.
pauledell Posted June 6, 2009 Author Share #19 Posted June 6, 2009 Jeff, Thanks for your kind remarks. I must admit to being a little embarrassed that I didn't see the refinements in the first place. However, it certainly made it a lot better with the helpful suggestions from everyone. I think this forum is the greatest. Thanks again.
