paisatge Posted May 22, 2009 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't seem to find any clear info on the possibility/feasibility of using ND filters with the 2 new lenses. Would someone be able to comment? Thanks
Advertisement Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Hi paisatge, Take a look here ND filters for summilux 21/24mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted May 22, 2009 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2009 Why shouldn't you if you can find them of the correct size?
giordano Posted May 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted May 22, 2009 I don't seem to find any clear info on the possibility/feasibility of using ND filters with the 2 new lenses. Would someone be able to comment? Thanks There was a thread about this recently. The best idea seemed to be to slip a gelatin ND filter behind the UV/IR filter. Also, Tiffen are making combined IR blocking/ND filters (they seem to call them Hot Mirror IRND) though it's not clear whether they are yet available in "Series" mounts. Thanks B+W | Series 8 #103 Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Glass | 65073081 i think this is it. special order and cant use it with IR filter since there is only room for one filter with the current set up (unless you buy the filter adapter)

jaay Posted May 22, 2009 Share #6 Posted May 22, 2009 Just to clarify the previous comments: The IRND filters are currently only produced for motion picture cameras - so it would be a very large piece of glass on the end of a typical m mount sized lens! Due to the M8 having a relatively high minimum ISO of 160 I have ordered a B+W 46mm ND.9 filter for my summilux so I can always shoot wide open outside. There is no reason why it shouldn't be able to stack on top of an existing UV/IR filter on longer lenses but on 21 and 24 it may cause additional vignetting. It is a shame there is no slim version of this and the UV/IR filters for wide angle lenses as I can safely stack slim mount filters on my wide canon lenses without any issues. The thing is that the new Summiluxes use a Series VIII filter retained by the lens hood. Regardless of possible vignetting there's only room in the hood for one glass filter. paisatge Posted May 24, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted May 24, 2009 Now I'm thinking about polyester/gel ND filters. I'm sure they will fit together with a UV/IR glass filter and the hood
jaapv Posted May 26, 2009 Share #9 Posted May 26, 2009 I have contacted John Milich about a custom lens hood with standard filter thread. He has not handled the lens yet, but I hope I have planted a seed.
pgk Posted May 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted May 26, 2009 Since Lee make an RF filter holder, it might be worth contacting them to see if they will produce an appropriate adapter to allow the series filter and their RF filter holder to be fitted - they also supply gel filters. jaapv Posted May 26, 2009 Share #11 Posted May 26, 2009 I think that holder on a lens like the 24 will block at least 50% of the viewfinder. And as we are talking narrow-DOF here, an accessory viewfinder won't work.

dfarkas Posted May 28, 2009 Share #13 Posted May 28, 2009 We have the two filter adapters for the 21 and 24 Lux in stock. These allow you to use standard 82mm and 72mm filters, respectively. paisatge Posted May 28, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted May 28, 2009 Thanks David. That's very nice to know. I believe that would mean without any hood?
dfarkas Posted May 29, 2009 Share #15 Posted May 29, 2009 Thanks David. That's very nice to know. I believe that would mean without any hood? Correct. These adapters don't allow use with the hood. The only way to use filters with the hood is to use series 7 or 8 filters. David
