the.ant Posted April 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted April 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi folks, I'll be travelling to London next week and since the pound is still reasonably low, I was hoping to buy some film there, not just for the holidays but to stock up a bit. So, are there any shops that sell large amounts of film (or bulk rolls) for a reasonable price?
Advertisement Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Hi the.ant, Take a look here Where to buy film in London?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Don'tknowmuch Posted April 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted April 9, 2009 I expect there are others, but in case you don't have any other luck in this vein I can point you towards Process Supplies. A quick search for them on the net and you'll have all the information you need. Can't tell you this without pointing out that the James Ravilious exhibition is on at the National Theatre - half an hour's walk away from Process Supplies at Mount Pleasant. If you know his work you'll want to go, and if you don't you should go if you can. Jim.
Tim B Posted April 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted April 9, 2009 In central(ish) London there are: Calumet 93-103 Drummond Street London NW1 2HJ (This is very near to Euston Station although it takes a bit of finding) Usually well stocked. Teamwork Digital Ltd. 41-42 Foley Street London W1W 7JN United Kingdom In a side street of Tottenham Court Road, near Warren Street Tube. Again takes a bit of finding. An excellent place, but selling less film now - check dates. The Pro Centre 5-6 Mallow Street London EC1Y 8RS This is very near Old Street Tube, which means it is quite near our friends at Red Dot Cameras. Also excellent and well supplied with film - again, as always these days I suppose, check dates. You might find some film at Jacobs in New Oxford Street (near Tottenham Court Road Tube), but although they sell intersting S/H Pro gear their film fridge is gone and it is mostly amateur stuff - but if desperate, maybe. Hope you have a good trip, Tim
dpattinson Posted April 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted April 9, 2009 You can try SilverPrint, they are a short walk from Waterloo station. Otherwise Calumet has a branch in Soho, and as noted above - Process Supplies is a good place.
thrid Posted April 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted April 9, 2009 Silverprint - Home - News - Photographic Materials and more - Calumet and Jessops (depending on who's having a sale)

rulnacco Posted August 5, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bit late for the original poster, but if you're in London long-term, the best place to buy film is from 7dayshop.com. They're in Guernsey, so they don't charge VAT. When you place your order, you'll usually have your film within 5 working days (postage is free; if you pay a bit extra, you allegedly will get it even faster). They've got an excellent selection, and their prices approach half what you'd pay in a store. I buy all my film from them--and they have great prices on memory cards and other digital stuff as well! Nick De Marco Posted August 5, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 5, 2009 rulnaco I use 7dayshop too for all my films. Very good prices. Someone told me (a shop owner of course) internet film suppliers supply old or badly maintained film. I've never noticed anything wrong with quality from 7day, has anyone else? Pangur Ban Posted August 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 7, 2009 The film quality has always been first rate and the use-by dates long ahead. I've occasionally had things like HP5+ arrive not in boxes but in foil wrappers - Ilford marked so must be genuine - but that's actually a good thing as I hate the waste that a lot of the packaging causes. alun Posted August 7, 2009 Share #10 Posted August 7, 2009 Another vote for 7daysshop. They have the lowest prices around, pretty swift delivery and a better range than one can hope to see in most brick-and-mortar stores. I've bought a fair bit from them and have always been very satisfied with the online service provided. Deliveries are batched (if I remember correctly) in packages whose value is under GBP 18.00, which is a requirement of HM Customs & Excise for VAT-zero sellers, I think. If you buy in bulk this means consignments can arrive in five/six packages at the very least but I've never had anything go astray.
phc Posted August 15, 2009 Share #11 Posted August 15, 2009 Another vote for 7dayshop. They stock a lot of analogue photography stuff and are worthy of support. Cheers, P.
andybarton Posted August 15, 2009 Share #12 Posted August 15, 2009 Another very happy 7dayshop user here don't pay for superfast delivery as it doesn't get to you any quicker just bought 30 rolls from them so I'm sorted for a while. The sub £18 envelopes always get delivered within an elastic band, which makes a mockery of the VAT regulations
stunsworth Posted August 15, 2009 Share #13 Posted August 15, 2009 The sub £18 envelopes always get delivered within an elastic band, which makes a mockery of the VAT regulations Is it by any chance a red elastic band? If so it's your local sorting office batching up the packages.
rulnacco Posted July 20, 2010 Share #14 Posted July 20, 2010 I want to backtrack on my earlier comment, and recommend two other great sources of film. I no longer shop for film at 7dayshop.com. In the last several months, their film prices have shot up by roughly 50%, and even though they don't charge VAT or shipping, they have now become more expensive--and are slower--than the other two places I wanted to mention. One is mailshots.co.uk, who have been touted by others as well as me. And I really like ag-photographic.co.uk. Both have about the cheapest prices in the UK (trust me, I researched and put together a spreadsheet comparing the prices for my favourite films) and both deliver rapidly--much faster than 7dayshop.com nowadays. Ag Photographic. The Specialists for all traditional photo products. Fuji,Ilford,Kodak,Agfa,35mm Camera films,Discount Prices. Late yesterday afternoon I placed an order with Ag-Photographic, and I received it *today*. They advertise that if you place your order before 1.45 p.m., it will go in that day's post. They did not exaggerate one bit! Ag-Photographic does charge for shipping--but it's only £3.50 and you can order quite a bit of film before that rises any. Ag-Photographic also sells a large variety of black & white and colour papers and chemicals. I'm throwing all my film business toward those two firms. I'll probably buy most of my stuff from Ag-Photographic, but I'll also make sure I patronise Mailshots, as I want to support people who are committed to making film easily available and reasonably priced to us folks in the UK. MPerson Posted July 20, 2010 Share #15 Posted July 20, 2010 Matt at AG Photographic is a nice chap. He only started up last year but has grown quite a bit already. Also, if he doesn't show it on the web site he can get it- fast. He also shoots film so you can end up talking for ages on the phone.

Ditto here too. Now also using AG and have found them pretty good so far. If in Central London another rec for Calumet in Wardour Street, they don't carry a fantastic range in the fridge at the back of the tiny store but their prices are usually pretty good overall. metalphil Posted July 27, 2010 Share #18 Posted July 27, 2010 I am not familier with London, but I would give Matt at AG Photographic my vote. I am lucky living in Birmingham, and can drop in any time, and can confirm he is awash with all sorts of film, and developing products. He should be supported. Phil.
