vicaf Posted February 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings: I am looking for a bag to house my M8.2 with a 28 Summicron attached, and in addition room for at least one and at the most 2 lenses to use on day trips . I need your advice on a bag that meets these criteria, can shield my equipment from the elements, and is comfortable and practical. I do not need leather, for I am looking for a low key bag to not announce its precious cargo to others. Your advice on this matter is much appreciated. Thank you, Vic

doug_m Posted February 23, 2009 Share #3 Posted February 23, 2009 I'm not sure it will work for what you want but check out the Billingham Pola Stowawy bag. I put an M8 and any lens from a 28 to a 90 AA F2 in it and use an extra piece of Billingham padding on the bottom. I also put my camera in a Leica neoprene case before placing it in the Pola so if you skip all this extra padding that I use you might be able to put an extra lens in- but 'm not sure. This case is killer for its ease of use and is pretty unobtrusive and inexpensive for a Billingham. When it was first suggested to me I balked but now its my favorite bag. usayit Posted February 23, 2009 Share #4 Posted February 23, 2009 Sounds like the Billingham Hadley classic will work nicely.
grober Posted February 23, 2009 Share #5 Posted February 23, 2009 Another vote for any model Billingham you like. I like the Hadley Pro 'cause its comfortable to carry, can be re-configured readily internally and is almost immune to rain. -g
sfokevin Posted February 23, 2009 Share #6 Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) I would suggest a messenger bag from Timbuk2 as a low key over shoulder bag... It is made of a completely waterproof canvas, has a bunch of little zippered pockets and can be designed in any color combo you want... I put my camera and 4 lenses in individual neoprene mini bags inside with room to spare... Timbuk2 Bags - Classic Messenger - Ballistic Fabric I have the small sized messenger bag which I selected custom colors of the Italian flag which you can do thru their build you own bag option... kenf Posted February 23, 2009 Share #7 Posted February 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can highly recommend the "Bare Bones Bag" from BBB The Figital Revolution - it's extremely well made and a perfect match for an M and two to three lenses plus accessories. JWW Posted February 23, 2009 Share #9 Posted February 23, 2009 I use a Domke F5xB canvas bag to carry a M8 with 28/2 or 35/ 2.0 lens attached along with a Noctilux and the Leica sf24 flash. Has a pocket for extra battery, cards etc. Comfortable to carry and reasonable price. Ecar Posted February 23, 2009 Share #14 Posted February 23, 2009 Just had a bag made by Fogg (Fogg Specialist Bags - photographic bags and camera cases). Maybe a bit on the expensive side and not the stealthiest ones (but Billinghams aren't either...), but they are beautifully handmade and customised to a great extent. You can get a small one and add extra pouches when you need to carry more lenses. In addition, bee and Nigel are great people to deal with. daubsphoto Posted February 23, 2009 Share #15 Posted February 23, 2009 Another bag you might consider is the Domke F-3X. It has become my favorite for the m8 with 3 lenses. It's pretty small, not too heavily padded, and easy to get to everything when you're moving.
JHAG Posted February 23, 2009 Share #16 Posted February 23, 2009 Very rugged, military grade and inexpensive, with a lot of inside/outside pouches. I removed the sticker "Naneu Pro" to make it more anonymous. Colemanbear Posted February 23, 2009 Share #18 Posted February 23, 2009 I have used a Domke F803 daily for over 10 years now and find it to be light, discreet, durable and flexible. I usually carry 1xM8 + 3 lenses with notebooks, maps etc, though have comfortably carried 5D + 35 1.4L + 70-200 2.8. Have also just bought the J803 (Ballistic nylon version) which seems to be a slight improvement (smoother material on the inside, slightly more room). Happy shopping. Guest noah_addis Posted February 23, 2009 Share #19 Posted February 23, 2009 I've also used the Domke F803 for years. My last one in fact lasted 10 years, so I finally got a new one recently. It's discreet, light, great for leicas but it will also hold small slrs, and it's affordable. I also have the F5Xa, which is a tiny bag that holds one M with a 28/2 attached and one other lens. Great for when you want to travel really light.
