kenneth Posted February 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) When I look at one of my M6 bodies front on there is a slight haze on the inside glass of the viewfinder. If you can still use it OK, my advice would be to wait until the camera needs a full CLA next. If it's preventing you from focussing, or causing flare etc, then have it cleaned now. DO NOT KEEP THIS CAMERA WITH YOUR OTHER EQUIPMENT UNTIL YOU ARE CERTAIN IT IS NOT FUNGUS!!! If it is fungus, it will infect your other camera's and optics. Have a service center check it out as soon as possible - or just have a local camera repair shop look at it and advise if it is indeed fungus - don't let him work on it, just get a second opinion. Sounds reasonable Andy. I do not seem to have a problem using it with haze and it is only minor and I sincerely hope it is not a fungus as it is only just out of it's 6 months warranty with Classic Camera. I will seriously consider that option on both M6 bodies as the other body has a film counter alignment problem which those awfully nice people at Milton Keynes reckoned would just be a half hour job. Supposedly they fit a new screw with an opposing thread as this has been a reoccurring issue with late model M6 classics (1996) Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I think you got a rather good deal! In fact that's around what I was quoted by Leica for a CLA on a lens. Kenneth, if its just the viewfinder glass I would expect a camera repairer can do the necessary to remove the top plate and clean the glass for much less than the cost of a full CLA. Regarding the screw and misalignment issue with the film counter which, we conversed about a little while ago on the other body, I know both problems are only very minor and do not interfere with the workings of either. kenneth Posted February 9, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted February 9, 2009 Following my comments yesterday evening about my niggles about two very minor issues with my M6 bodies I have realised that this sort nit picking serves no purpose at all and I am just very grateful to own such brilliant photographic equipment as Leica which, at least can be CLA'd when necessary to sort out such problems. The camera is indeed pristine, with box and all papers etc, but today I noticed something weird at the finder window (on the inside), which initially looked like fog, but after using a flashlight to have a closer look, it seems to be something else. AndreasG Posted July 22, 2021 Share #12 Posted July 22, 2021 My two M6, 30 resp. 35 years old do not show any haze, but my M4-P from around 1980 has substantial haze in the window, but I can accept that and continue to use the camera. I used it for a number of years like that, then I decided to send it in for a CLA (plus, my rangefinder was slightly off, and that really started to bother me). I had the viewfinder glass replaced with up-to-date coated glass. Boy oh boy, what a difference! A night and day difference, and I shouldn't have waited so long.
