Advertisement Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Hi topoxforddoc, Take a look here How's the Summicron-M 50mm f/2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bobkatz Posted February 9, 2009 Share #22 Posted February 9, 2009 It is a very nice lens, one of my favourites and not large. The latest version has the number 22 printed next to the m of the distance scale to indicate that the actual focal length is 52.2mm. Maybe earlier versions do also? Jeff I have one with 22 printed, this means last version equal Version V??? Regards.. Bob..
jc_braconi Posted February 9, 2009 Share #23 Posted February 9, 2009 Mine's a 22 too, it's a conspiracy Leica never made a 50mm? Only Noctilux 1,0 are 50,0 = 00 Summicron 2/50mm 51,6 = 7 or 16 51,9 = 8 or 19 52,2 = A or
ChadHahn Posted February 10, 2009 Share #24 Posted February 10, 2009 I have a .72 Leica and use my Summicron about 98% of the time. Remember that the M3 had an even higher magnification and the 50 was the standard lens. Chad
andybarton Posted February 10, 2009 Share #25 Posted February 10, 2009 Thanks JC I knew that 22 wasn't the only mark
wizard Posted February 10, 2009 Share #26 Posted February 10, 2009 Thanks JC I knew that 22 wasn't the only mark Andy, for the current version it is though. JC's comment included earlier versions of the Summicron 50mm lens, which had slightly varying focal lengths. For example, I know for sure that the first rigid Summicron 50 existed in both 51,6 and 51,9mm form (usually scratched onto the lens head, which was removable with this version). Best, Andy

SteveYork Posted February 10, 2009 Share #28 Posted February 10, 2009 In a word: Classic. The optics of the 50mm summicron are outstanding. By the way, many claim that the 50mm ZI Planer is equally good.
