The site that is depicted here has a public, practical function whereas it radiates a more spiritual ambience and thus is unique in its sort, in my travelling experiences at least.

I don't think this is really hard to find on a map, or at least circumcise it further, given the hints

Thanks, Otto. Sukhothai was a guess, and I'd never have guessed the airport! I like quiet wee airports. Ayers Rock, and Bournemouth International spring to mind, as well as the beach on the isle of Barra. Never found one I'd call serene, though. Not yet...
