vertekijker Posted August 20, 2010 Share #5041 Posted August 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) It wouldn't be the Hermitage in Amsterdam by any chance, would it? First prize goes to Philipp! That was very quick - I was sure it would take longer because the building is so unassuming while it houses such great treasures. Yes, it is the Hermitage Museum in Amsterdam. Visited the day before yesterday and saw a sublime collection of early Picasso's, Matisses, Kandinsky's, van Dongens, de Vlamincks... As a young man I went to the 'original' Hermitage in what was then called Leningrad, but the experience in Amsterdam was much more satisfying because only these top works were selected and one did not have to search through hundreds and hundreds of rooms and art works to find these gems. Your turn Philipp, with one 'l' and two 'pp's'. -------------------- Frans
Advertisement Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Hi vertekijker, Take a look here "Do you know the world ?" -- Competition --. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pop Posted August 20, 2010 Share #5042 Posted August 20, 2010 Thank you very much indeed, Frans. There were several clues. One was the material of the walls. Then there was the proportions and spacing of the windows. They are uncommonly tall for what has to be a rather recent building. The trees must have been planted recently. It all suggested "museum" to me, and a rather new one. Regardless, your answer caught me completely unprepared. I will post the image of next place tomorrow, that's saturday. pop Posted August 20, 2010 Share #5043 Posted August 20, 2010 I could locate an image which was, in fact, made with a Leica. Just name the town which is nearly visible in the image below. vertekijker Posted August 20, 2010 Share #5044 Posted August 20, 2010 Yes, it is three 'p's! Sorry! But the Amsterdam Hermitage building is not a modern one, Philipp. It was cleaned up considerably and new trees where planted, but the the building dates from 1681. The original dedication reads: 'Diaconie Oude Vrouwen Huys anno 1681 '. By the way, no idea where this new picture was taken. Looks a bit Swiss. -------------------- Frans

vertekijker Posted August 22, 2010 Share #5057 Posted August 22, 2010 Those people do not seem to be looking at something specific left or right, so I guess that it is a path going towards somewhere more interesting - to a buidling, a memorial? ----------------- Frans
etibeti Posted August 22, 2010 Share #5058 Posted August 22, 2010 The showplace is on the left side of the bridge. It´s one of the most famous in that country. Yes it´s a building.
