Rolo Posted January 29, 2009 Share #21 Posted January 29, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Did Michael have anything positive and upbeat to say about this ? One of our esteemed Forum members has one like this. Leica know what they are doing and know what the niche markets are worth to them. Perhaps, copying Canon is the wrong direction for Leica users. Advertisement Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Hi Rolo, Take a look here Michael Reichmann on the Safari M8.2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Chuckcars Posted January 29, 2009 Share #22 Posted January 29, 2009 Oh, no, don't tell me the M8.2 is now headed for the collectors museum.
haribo Posted January 30, 2009 Share #23 Posted January 30, 2009 What type of wheels do you have on your car? Steel utilitarian ones or useless light metal? Leica is in the business of selling cameras. If they can sell one by covering it in diamonds and rubies why not? It would be ridiculous if they would shortsell themselves by refusing to cater to the taste of some of their customers. The days that a Ford was available "in any colour as long as it is black" are long behind us. Sorry I forgot, Leica is indeed in the business of selling cameras. Guess, as long as the dentist crowd is happy who cares about what pro's would like to see. Got to admit though, I'm just very upset and angry. The Safari green just doesn't match the British Racing Green of my Jaguar E type. What a shame.
photogdave Posted January 30, 2009 Share #24 Posted January 30, 2009 Nothing quite like hopping on the "Leicas are for dentists" bandwagon. Change the record please. I think the Safaris are cool looking. Especially the old binoculars.

Printmaker Posted January 30, 2009 Share #27 Posted January 30, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think a Lugi half case in reticulated Ostrich testicles would be great. Or maybe they could start shipping the new Noctilux in an gilded Ostrich egg. You know, I've never looked that closely, but if I remember my biology, birds do not have external testicles. The Safari green just doesn't match the British Racing Green of my Jaguar E type. What a shame. Ummm..Which dentist is going to buy one then? And I guess Leica is earning a whole lot more money - always has been- from amateurs than from professionals. Without amateurs there would be no Leica now. That goes for all camera companies, except maybe Hasselblad, Sinar, etc. What would you prefer to do as a company? And why should you be angry? Is anybody forcing you to buy this camera? rycm Posted January 30, 2009 Share #35 Posted January 30, 2009 Dont know about the safari. But I have the limted LHSA MP Hammertone with matching 35cron. And I must say it's great to behold, hold, and admire.
Leicaiste Posted January 30, 2009 Share #36 Posted January 30, 2009 In my opinion to stick a red dot on each and every Leica camera, binocular and big lens show more bad taste than 500 Safari M8.
Vivek Iyer Posted January 30, 2009 Share #37 Posted January 30, 2009 In my opinion to stick a red dot on each and every Leica camera, binocular and big lens show more bad taste than 500 Safari M8. That goes for all the SLRs (Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sonic, etc) garish white paint on black bodies. Why would Nikon add that Nike red slash on their cameras? Leica have some weird taste. The others have no taste at all.
KevinA Posted January 30, 2009 Share #38 Posted January 30, 2009 It's easy to knock it as it just does not do anything any better than the off the shelf cheapo version. As ridiculous a camera as it is, if money was no problem I'd have one, why not if you can afford it? Kevin.
SJP Posted January 30, 2009 Share #39 Posted January 30, 2009 It is not 'more expensive' or only negligably so. I really don't see what the hassle is about. It is basically a good deal + you get a rather unique version of the M8.2 with a nice and nice looking lens. Nothing wrong with that surely?
