wilfredo Posted January 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) This evening I took part in a vigil in protest of the attacks in Gaza. What was different about this vigil? It brought Jews, Palestinians, Muslims, Christians, people of faith and no particular faith together to protest the carnage. The vigil was held in front of the Israeli Consulate office in L.A. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest maddoc2003jp Posted January 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 8, 2009 Good work !! I like the whole series, with #1 and #4 being my favorites. The light and contrast is great. Hopefully there will be peace in this region soon ! Cheers, Gabor
wilfredo Posted January 8, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted January 8, 2009 And two more. The next to last shot is a police helicopter that hovered there all the time. Copyright Wilfredo Benitez. vertekijker Posted January 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 8, 2009 Good to see that these protesters can look beyond their own people's interest to that of the whole region and of all people. Good reportage, Wilfredo. The black and white works very well. -------------- Frans

wilfredo Posted January 8, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted January 8, 2009 Thank you all. Most of the media coverage we get here locally pits one side against the other but at this event we have both sides coming together for the sake of humanity. All shots were done with the M8 and 35mm Summicron ASPH, ISO 1250. Your prayers are welcome.
turner Posted January 8, 2009 Share #15 Posted January 8, 2009 These are, to be sure, some wonderful captures but to be more balanced about all of this where are the threads with captures of the vigils that protest the gruesome beheadings of innocents, duped mentally challenged suicide bombers, and the endless rockets that for years now targeted only civilians? Guest flatfour Posted January 8, 2009 Share #16 Posted January 8, 2009 Good pictures about an almost insuperable problem. I have pity for the southern Jews and for the northern palestinians in Gaza. You just can't win with terrorism.
roguewave Posted January 8, 2009 Share #17 Posted January 8, 2009 Wilfredo, glad to see this coverage. I have gotten more emails from friends around the world about the events in Gaza than anything else I can remember. It seems inevitable that we humans make the same stupid mistakes time & time again. You know my prayers are sailing alongside yours. Peace my Brother.
alun Posted January 8, 2009 Share #18 Posted January 8, 2009 Wilfredo -- #1 and 4 in the first sequence are excellent reportage photographs, 4 especially (in my view) because it is undeniably realistic and rooted in a real event, but it also less literal and more open to the viewer's interpretation (which I always like). cheers

earleygallery Posted January 8, 2009 Share #20 Posted January 8, 2009 Excellent and thought provoking images Wilfredo. I won't comment on the politics, its far too big an issue to discuss here, but your images speak for themselves.
