badpets Posted January 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) actually this thread is a continuation of my "M3 or MP" thread from the Film Forum... now i've got my M3, the only problem is that when i showed my M3 to my cousin tonight, he said "so let me use your M8 since you've got your M3 now". i actually dont mind sharing things, i just dont trust they could take care of the cameras like i do. i rather buy them leica than lending it. but again i dont have spare money to buy anyone a leica. i wonder how many of you share your leica with family memebers/spouse/friends? badpets Posted January 7, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted January 7, 2009 Me too, I would share anything but not Leica ! OK, now here's the real question - How do you reject them so you don't hurt a good relationship? (Pardon me for such a cunning question)

badpets Posted January 7, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted January 7, 2009 Good one (but I think it will work only for kids). Never; for sharing I have a little Nikon digital camera.
Tenor1 Posted January 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 7, 2009 I have and would loan out my cameras. In fact, I bought my nephew and wife a C-Lux 2 and they gave it back because they didn't like it. Now I have 2 C-Lux 2's in the house. They wanted a camera that puts the date on more easily, so I bought them a Nikon 6000. They are much more happy with it. They were using an old Nikon, which I gave them a few years ago. I have not had any problems loaning out cameras. It doesn't happen often though, maybe 6-10 times and mostly by the same person. Guest Luis D Posted January 7, 2009 Share #11 Posted January 7, 2009 i wonder how many of you share your leica with family memebers/spouse/friends? My family/spose/friends do not want any part of my Leicas. First they have no desires to use film and think me very silly that I do even sometimes. Second they want WYSIWYG meaning SLR or direct view, auto focus, zoom lens, other words all of modern things. So they do not ask for my M8 too. stunsworth Posted January 7, 2009 Share #12 Posted January 7, 2009 It depends on the person. I've lent Leica equipment to people from the forum and other friends in the past, and I'd do it again. It's also a good sales technique for anything you're selling "Just borrow it for a couple of weeks, if you don't want it give it back". I've had that done to me, and done it myself. Works almost every time <grin>.
rob139 Posted January 7, 2009 Share #13 Posted January 7, 2009 I do, but most of my friends don't understand the M system, so they are not asking. But in fact I have lent out my M6 and three lenses to a brother of a good friend right now. I hope he will also start to 'understand' Leica M. I also hope he will take good care of it. badpets Posted January 7, 2009 Author Share #14 Posted January 7, 2009 Luis D, stunsworth,& rob139 are very generous indeed. I used to let my friend play with my M8 while we hung out for one night, but sad to say, I couldn't enjoy anything but worrying it. Maybe it depends on the kind of person you are and as for me, I'm extremely protective of things I truly love.
Leica DeOcean Posted January 7, 2009 Share #15 Posted January 7, 2009 Seldom do I let anyone touch the M8 much less lend it out. Often I have a request to take a picture of me since I am taking so many pictures of others. I find it "lugubrious" to explain why I can't do that. On the rare occasions that I have momentarliy relinquished the camera to someone who would not take "No" for an answer, the picture never comes out good given that I have a "diopter" correction lens which usually does not work well for others. Marquinius Posted January 7, 2009 Share #16 Posted January 7, 2009 Are you joking? First I'd be worried (I mean, it IS rather expensive and hmmm break it buy it sounds good until you actually tell your friend NOW is the time to pay). After that: IF ... big IF ... it should be someone who knows his/her way around a manual camera. But ... no. In the end .. lending? You may hold it, you may try it it, but me walking away? No. Marco
stuny Posted January 7, 2009 Share #17 Posted January 7, 2009 Share with Barbara (but she doesn't like taking photos) and share with two friends -- One has an M6 and has been a friend for decades. The other is in France, a member of this Forum, and has one of my cameras on loan. I have since met some other Forum members with whom I'd be comfortable letting them use my gear.
