Milich adaptors

He seems very disorganised and works alone. I returned my 15mm CV hood because of excessive vignetting when used with a UV/IR filter. He did not send it back and has not replied to emails. This item was very expensive so I am needless to say very unhappy. Under the circumstances I cannot recommend his work. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/images/smilies/mad.gif

Is there a European supplier of the Milich adaptors for Zeiss lenses?

No. Contact him at :

jm@milich.com

He will reply to the e-mail with trading instructions. Unfortunately John has opted for the wretched option of PayPal only. The two separate purchases I have made were safely delivered [to the UK] and were not stopped by Customs - so no additional VAT payment. The LTM8 adapters work well and are easy to code, my understanding is that there isn't an adapter for Zeiss lenses but an option for milling the codable pits into your Zeiss flange which needs to be removed and sent to him. Do a search, the subject has been covered before.

EDIT - See the following thread and post 9 :

I might have given partial, or even some incorrect information concerning Zeiss 'adapters'.

The lens adapters and so forth and kind of a hobby side business for John as his main work is in custom metal work for interior designers, etc. He's a good guy but he can be hard to reach.

The CV 15 hood/adapter does vignette and I mention this at the end of my review. The early production model I tested did not but there must have been a spec. change.

Cheers,

hello dubois

i've purchased 2 of the LTM8 adapters, and have asked john to mill the coding into 2 flanges (hektor and super angulon) and a lens (35mm pre-asph).

following your first email, you should receive a word document with current products/services/prices. after receiving that, there's not a lot of communication necessary, so i wasn't worried about the usual order confirmations, and "it's sent" letters.

  1. payment by paypal, with your address and instructions/request in the comments section
  2. wait a bit (10 days or so in my 5 examples)
  3. goods arrive

greetings from hamburg

Thanks Rick

How are you and by the way, the 25mm was an excellent choice and is now my favourite lens. Very glad you decided to sell :)) This is what slightly confused me about the subject because on the 25mm there is a brass milled mount which I presumed was by Milich. It gives the correct framelines and correct exif.

I would like the same for the 35/f2 Biogon and the 50/f1.5 Sonnar but would prefer a new mount like the one on the 25mm rather than having the existing flange milled. Incidentally both these lenses do bring up the correct framelines but unlike some other postings here I do notice a difference (particularly foliage shine and colour) when I use lenses with self coding (Tim Abraham self coder) and without. (Perhaps Sean Reid can comment?)

I will wait for Milich's email with instructions.

Return greetings from a very cold England and here is a recent picture with the excellent 25mm!

I got one last November (2008) and was appaled at vignetting. Then I experimented a little and screwed the filter from the other side, i.e from the back of the adapter/shade. Voila, no vignetting. It is the filter rim that vignettes.

FYI people. John Millich has a factory in Brooklyn. What he told me was that he started making these adapters for himself and realized that other people need them too. This is not his main gig, like I said, he has a factory that he runs. But he is Very organized (I have been to his factory). And he is a very nice person.

That said, think about how many emails you get per day. Personally I get so many that it's easy for one or two to slip through the cracks. I try to avoid it as I am sure he does too, but it happens. Just like snail mail gets lost sometimes too.

I've bought two LTM8 adaptors, as well as the CV 15 hood from John, and have been happy with the work, but have been equally impressed by the brevity of his email messages...I've never encountered anyone with an economy of words like John :-) He is great with delivery too: he sent me a second LTM8 quickly when the first was lost in the mail.

I have one adaptor for my CV15mm, which works perfect.

I also have the hood for the IR-filter which shows the vignetting problem (I do not understand why he designed the length of the hood that close to the theortical limit, since when used on a regular 35mm body, you would not put on a lens hood at....).

Since I don't want to ship it back to the US, I will have it shortened by a friend of mine who has a turning lathe....

My 15mm hood vignettes too - even with the filter fitted from the back. One thing to make sure is that the filter is screwed in fully as it seems able to work loose over time. This will reduce the vignetting.

I do wish John communicated more. I realise that it's just a sideline but it can be disconcerting to send someone several hundred dollars and then hear nothing - not even confirmation that he's received the money - until the goods arrive. After saying that, the goods always arrive, so all I would say to anyone who is worried is be patient, the items will be delivered.
