Shutter lag?

They declared 0.08 s in their brochures: personally, I think that (apart the tech capabilty to have a real measure) is not an indecent value... being shorter than a typical human "reaction time" (see the response times of athletes at 100 mtr. start) I think it's someway logical that, in practical use, one doesn't even notice it.

BTW... been this thread started by Jaap... ;) ... you can probably appreciate a very good reaction time when one feels abruptly the terrible pain of a tooth nerve when it's touched... :D

This test might be of interest:

I have tested my M8 and various DSLRs and the M8 is pretty quick.

Funny... but imho funny and no more... given the fractions of time involved, I think that there is too much uncertainess basing the test on the action of "fire when arrow crosses 0"... But if I remember well there is the way to actuate M8 shutter via USB with the Leica-provided Software (I didn't install it... not even remember the name...) : probably a decent DIY test with a PC could be set up this way...

With my chrome M8 and my mouse at the office I get a consistent .08+/-.

So since I get the same time clicking a mouse button as I do with the camera I'd say that is my reaction time and the camera shutter lag time is virtually non existent.

I agree. Whilst I do not have time to waste to sit and try to measure exactly, my feeling it exposes as quick as I put my finger down, which means no lag. Maybe the guy who says it is long was counting wakeup from sleep (the M8, not himself :D).

Well, .08 sec. is 80 milliseconds. On the other hand, I don't really care as I have never missed a shot with my M8, and it certainly is no slower than my M6TTL, or at least I cannot tell the difference. It is also no slower than my R8/DMR, most likely it is far faster.

Who really cares? Go out and take pictures.

Cheers,

Gene
