jaapv Posted January 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted January 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I set myself a little project and wandered through Prague in the evening with just the CV Nokton 1.2 on. Judge for yourself.. I did use an IR/UV filter, and was surprised at the minimal number of reflections I had. I did three clones in total over the whole series. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/landscape-travel/74414-prague-night.html#post771739 http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/landscape-travel/74411-christmas-prague.html
Advertisement Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Nokton 35/1.2 at night. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
aj55 Posted January 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted January 7, 2009 Nice pictures, Jaap!!
asfeir Posted January 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted January 7, 2009 Great night shots. What f number were you using. Depth of field seems rather large. Abdal
tollie Posted January 7, 2009 Share #4 Posted January 7, 2009 Wonderful set of photographs... The Nokton is a large lens... and a bit heavy... but I did not see any shake. No noise either... really clean. I wonder what iso, fstop, shutter speed you used?
aj55 Posted January 7, 2009 Share #5 Posted January 7, 2009 Any postproduction I am sure? Noise reduction of some sort, or something else?
Marquinius Posted January 7, 2009 Share #6 Posted January 7, 2009 Jaap, That's a gem of a lens and for a realistic price also. Nice series, btw! Marco
jaapv Posted January 7, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted January 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I must confess to not noting down f-stops, but they will range from 1.2 to 2.8. The ISO I must get from EXIF, as I was running auto-ISO with a 1250 max for most shots. Shuttertimes mostly in the 1/12th to 1/4 range, all hand-held. Postprocessing, yes, as you see there is quite some discontinuous light around, this will shift the WB to yellow-green, that was corrected, colours were enhanced in LAB mode, sharpening as needed. No noise reduction applied. I prefer a slow shutter and fast lens... There is one shot with a light-source on the edge (the red Xmas tree in front of the large building) It is uncropped, yet no green streak
Double Negative Posted January 7, 2009 Share #8 Posted January 7, 2009 Those are really nice shots, Jaap. You're right, you can't complain about the image quality with the Nokton. I'm impressed with mine as well, and it compares well to some ZMs (though some clearly are sharper but none go to f/1.2). I've noticed the Leica UV/IR filters to be rather poorly coated as well. I'm used to Heliopan SH-PMC and B+W MRC filters, and they rarely (if ever) flare. When they do, it's typically small green globules... But the Leica filters? Ugh. iwskipper Posted January 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted January 7, 2009 Excellent fotos. Well done. Is your Nokton self- coded? Regards Jens
luigi bertolotti Posted January 7, 2009 Share #10 Posted January 7, 2009 Compliments... hard to see a series of night scenes in which ANY is REALLY a wonderful pic... the 1st is superb, so as the grocery shot... my preferred, but repeat that the complex is a lot tasty
hdrmd Posted January 7, 2009 Share #11 Posted January 7, 2009 Beautiful work. DR
bsmith Posted January 8, 2009 Share #12 Posted January 8, 2009 A lot of blue "fringing" (or blooming) in the blown highlight areas. Lens or M8 issues?
jaapv Posted January 8, 2009 Author Share #13 Posted January 8, 2009 That is something the M8 does. Blooming is a fact of digital life...
Ecar Posted January 8, 2009 Share #14 Posted January 8, 2009 Very nice sets! I like the rendering and ease of use of the Nokton very much too, although for some reason I don't use it very much. Thanks for reminding me that I should go out at night more often...
