d-lux 4 and underexposure..problem?

i have shotted some pics in manual mode, and iso 100,with my d-lux 4! I have notated some differences between the image that i see after the shotting and the image seen in play mode. And however if i have an acceptable image in the lcd after the shootting, when i see the image in my eizo calibrated monitor,i see this image little underexposed and although be little, if i correct the raw file, with capture one..i see noise in the image!no good in shadow areas above all.I have not big difference if i correct the jpg file with acdsee or if i correct the raw file with capture one.

Now,is the underexposure a real problem or my sensation?

is there difference(in the exposure) between image after shooting and image in play mode?

How can i have good image using capture one with my images little underexposed?

thank you

i specify..that the image that i see in record mode,(after pushing the down arrow)is underexposed compared to the image seen in paly mode!

Many reviewers have noted that the camera seems to underexpose by 1/3 to 1/2 stop --- probably to avoid blown highlights (ie, a sensor of this size has limited dynamic range, so you pick your poison). You can either deal with this in post, or you can use your EV compensation function to increase exposure in the camera.

Not sure about differences you see on the LCD...

Jeff.

Consider the image you see on the display before the shot to be for composing only.

In my experience, it can be brighter or darker than the actual image, and I don't worry about that since the only thing that matters is the file written to card.

To my eye, the D-Lux 4 exposes fine; but I'm not using as good a monitor as you. ;)

But I'm not sure that's to the point since you say

... I have notated some differences between the image that i see after the shotting and the image seen in play mode....

I think the image in Auto Review should match that in Play, but I haven't compared them since only one counts.

Since the discrepancy is enough to bother you, you might want to ask Leica Customer Service.

Good luck!

i used the camera in manual mode with the flash and i give not importance to the image that i see in the display before the shotting.I precised that after shotting,if i push low arrow,i see an image less bright compared to the image that i see in play mode in the same camera's display. It seems so!and in my monitor i see, probably, an image with the same bright compared to the image that i see if i push the low arrow.

and however..with image underexposed a little,if i use Capture one..i no like the final result of my correction..and i not know if it is so for my little experience with capture on or for leica problems!the jpg created from the camera it is good..but if i try to increase the exposure, a little,..usig the rwl file,i have not a good result..it seems so!i will try to decrease the noise also..but..it is a problem of not clean image also!i'd like to know what parameters can i use to have a good result.

Hi everybody, this is my first time in this forum.

I had noticed the same.

The picture in the " review mode " ( when press the arrow down button ) seem to be under exposure than in " live view " before pressing the shutter button.

And the same picture in the " play mode " is a bit brighter than in the " review mode ".

The same picture in the monitor is a bit under exposure too.

Anyway, I really love this camera:D , Regards

Tae

i have discovered this:please, read page 45 in the user manual;if i use [*][power lcd]..the image seen after pushing the low arrow has the same brightness if compared to the image seen in play mode.

in this evening i tryed to verify the camera's behavior in "Aperture mode"+flash and i discoverd that the camera use 1/60(using tele lens); Now, for the photos shotted until yesterday in "M mode"i used 1/80 and so i'm thinking about the little underexposure of my photos...! however today i have not shotted any photo. So i will verify soon.

  • 2 months later...

i'm trying this camera(now, with new firmware) yet...mhm and so:also for you it is the same thing?:i have to set the monitor luminosity to -3 so i have in the display of the d-4- lux an image(shooted)with the same luminosity indicated from the histogram.

When the luminosity monitor is 0(default),i see a luminosity that is not the luminosity indicated from the histogram:for example:a see an acceptable image,a good image, but, with histogram moved to left..so poor of light!!and so then i have to correct it in post-production..is it a problem of my eyes?of my camera?of all the d-lux 4 cameras?Thank you

however i'm speaking about some photos shooted with the flash and i have read notes in pag.13 of the user manual..the problem is that i had to correct some photos shooted(with flash, i repeat) that in the display of the camera i see as acceptable images not bad images..;in play mode i think discovered that with luminosity=0 the image is acceptable, good but the histogram is moved to left, underexposed;and so the photo is underexposed really and i have to correct it in post-production;i see so the real luminosity of the photo(underexposed) if i use -3 as value of luminosity for the lcd of my d-lux 4.When i shootted the photos,i seen the image in the lcd d-lux 4 only and not the histogram..so i thinked to have acceptables photo;now as i had to correct the luminosity in many photos in my pc,i discovered this problem to going see the photos again in play mode in my camera+histogram;i hope that you understand me.
