Stupid Question I know

No, but there used to be an instant slide film, back in when the world was young.

Once upon a time, maybe.

Polaroid film is basically no more, although Fuji are still making their version to fit Polaroid cameras and backs

Hi Andy,

There used to be a 35mm Polaroid Film available, but you had to use it via a special back that was attached to the camera. Generally, you used to remove the film back door from the camera and replace it with the polaroid back. As each camera manufacturer had different backs, it was available only for a few limited camera's (Nikon F1, Canon T90, EOS 1n etc). Since Leica loads the film via the bottom, I don't think that a polaroid back was ever available - but I may be wrong.

Polaroid film is still available and is used mainly by the medium format guys - once the price comes down sufficiently for MF digital backs, this will also disappear though.

I was surprised the other day to find the Polaroid folding SLR and film in one of our photo dealers here in Windhoek. My first thought was that it is old stock - nope, the film only expires sometime in 2010. Fuji is even still producing 110 film - had not seen that for a long time, never mind a 110 camera.

Thanks to you both for the answers....what prompted the question was that I was reading an older issue of Leica World and a particular photographer there, made reference to using Polaroid film with his Leica:confused:

Maybe I will reread it..could have been after that gorgeous Margaux the other evening;)

They made several types, apparently (this was the instant slide film I was thinking of)

Polaroid 35mm instant slide system - Rangefinderforum.com

but you needed a special processor, still available on eBay of course :)

POLAROID 35MM POWERPROCESSOR POWER PROCESSOR - NEW - (eBay.ca item 290213754493 end time 05-Jan-09 14:11:26 EST)

It wasn't the same as normal Polaroid film, where you just peel off the back.

If my memory serves me correctly, the Polaroid instant slide film dates back 15 years or more. I don't know the shelf life of the emulsion or chemistry, so I would definitely use it for experimentation only. You may get nothing.

I remember when my local Leica dealer closed their doors 2 years ago they had a processor kit and chemistry in the "free" box because it was so outdated.
