Actually,

Bob is correct - the '69' stamping does indeed belong to a Leica service somwhere in the world. I do distinctly remember that '69' was among the assigned codes and my feeble brain seems to recall it belonged to some US or Canadian repair station. I could be wrong though......

Once upon a time, I found a listing of assigned stampings but for the life of me can't remember where. The stylized 'L' of course stood for Leitz in Wetzlar, 'C' was from the Canadian Leica agents during the 1960's and 70's - Walter A. Carveth.

Best,

Jan

This thread was a long time ago, but for anyone's info '69' is Jorg Heumuller's number - Wetzlar trained technician in Melbourne, Australia.

Herr Soixante Neuf

Ben, does Jorg work for anyone?

I'm in Brisbane but have been sending my Leicas & even a Nikon Coolscan (which they successfully repaired) to the Camera Clinic in Melbourne

Hello Everybody,

Erwin Puts, In his "Leica lists" P. 14 writes that "69" is "Pyrox, Melbourne".

My note to myself regarding this (Undated by me.) writes that he writes that he copied this information directly from the factory records in Solms in February 2010.

Best Regards,

Michael

Jorg works for himself in Heidelberg, Melb. He completely overhauled my M4 that I bought from the Camera Exchange. I bought it knowing that it wasn't running as well as it should. The Camera Exchange of course said, "it's fine, there's nothing wrong with it", which was technically true, but their definition of 'fine' isn't the same as mine and I was happy to learn that Jorg is of the same persuasion!
