ole300 Posted October 12, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone has successfully used the ipod camera connector with their digilux 2. I bought this trinket because i thought it would be a great way to store photos on my upcoming vacation. I didn't want to lug a laptop around. I'm sure you understand. Anyway, I plug the connector into my 5th generation iPod (the video one), and then connect the digilux 2. It looks good at first, it detects the camera, asks if i want to import, i say yes, and off it goes. after importing 5 of the 30 photos i have on the camera, it says there is a read error. It stops. I try again. Same thing, but the second time i get 7 photos. Again, only 1 photo imports. Now, if i connect it, it always says "no card inserted" and ignores me. Most of the time, my ipod freezes and needs to be reset. I've changed the usb type from Mass Storage to PTP, as some support articles on apple.com mention. Nothing works. Any tips? I bought the iPod from apple along with the camera connector at the same time. 3 days ago. The ipod was a refurbished model. Maybe its a lemon. I just want to know if anyone has had success. Maybe its my iPod, or connector. Thanks! //jeremy

ole300 Posted October 12, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted October 12, 2006 I have a bit of each currently on my card. I even put a movie. I wanted to see how it would upload all the different types. typically I use jpg for day to day, and raw if I am trying to do anything special. john_r_smith Posted October 12, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 12, 2006 Try this - clear the card and reformat it. Then shoot JPEGs only (say a dozen test images). Try downloading again. John
jmr Posted October 12, 2006 Share #5 Posted October 12, 2006 Jeremy, I had a similar problem with my iPod (also a fifth gen) and Digilux 2, as well as with my C-Lux. In my case it would transfer the pictures across but only play the first 7 - the rest just showed as grey squares. Needless to say, I was on holiday at the time so I bought a couple of extra SD cards rather than risk it. Strangely, exactly the same hardware had worked perfectly on holiday before - I imagine it was a software upgrade from Apple that was to blame. Unfortunately I was unable to find any fix on the internet, but after updating my iPod to the latest software level the problem mysteriously went away. You could try checking your software version. Hope you get to the bottom of your problem.
ronaldh Posted October 12, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 12, 2006 I had the same problem with a Flashtrak hard drive, which had worked perfectly with my Digilux 2 and D-Lux 2, when I tried downloading files from an Epson R1-D1. The manufacturers replaced the Flashtrak but this did not solve the problem. I am hoping it will prefer the M8, when it arrives, to the Epson. The Photo Ipod works perfectly well when importing jpeg D-lux and Epson files automatically from "my pictures" on my pc when synching i-tunes, (though it does not like RAW or TIFF files). I believe it compresses the files for storage. I have bought but not yet tried the Ipod connector as a back up as I am unsure as to the effect of this compression. kobold Posted October 12, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 12, 2006 latest iPod software essential. And when you transfer via Data, from memory, which has to be done specifically, it transfers bit for bit (no compression). I don't have one in front of me now, but I remember that the Data folders are at/near the top level, and usually the user does not see this option. You might go to ipodlounge.com/; excellent site and you could post that Q. there, too. Answers usually come quickly. hth, kl
ole300 Posted October 12, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted October 12, 2006 Thanks for all your help guys! kobold, i have the latest ipod software installed. i restored it yesterday with the latest. so i don't think its that. john, i tried you tip of clearing and formatting the card, and then i could connect again, but then it failed after 7 of the 12 photos. I'm at work now, but i think i'm going to try and put the same card into another camera i have at home and try that. my friend at work here had a d70 on him, and it worked like a charm, and i have a d50 at home that takes a SD card as well, so maybe i can just use that as vehicle to import. if i ever find a way to get it to work reliably with the d2 i will post an update. Thanks again all!
