ijporter Posted October 9, 2006 Share #1 Posted October 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Curdimurka is in the north of South Australia, on the famous Oodnadatta Track. It also forms part of the (now abandoned) Ghan railway line that connected Alice Springs with Port Augusta. although most of the trach has now been torn up, this secition remains intact. During WW2 my grandfather used to drive the troop trains along this railway. Each year Curdimurka hosts an Outback Ball, which is quite a thing to behold! Ian R6 21SA Sensia Circ. Pol. square_one Posted October 9, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 9, 2006 Ian - My honest reaction? A wonderfully stark shot. Might the sky though, be a little too tweaked (photoshop?)? I see how the sign and building really jump-out with the different sky but, to me, the change fights the evident angle of the sunlight, steals away some of the HUGE NATURALNESS of this sprawling scene. Tell me you did nothing to this beautiful landscape and I'll slap a big fat pie in my face and hop the next jet west!! Bruce
ijporter Posted October 9, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted October 9, 2006 Hi Bruce, The image is untweaked, except for the use of a circ. pol at the time of shooting. I do not have Photoshop, but make do with iPhoto and Graphic Convertor. Perhaps you could submit a shot of you fulfilling your promise about the pie! Make sure its a tasty one! We look forward to seeing you in our fabulous Outback 'real soon'. With best wishes, Ian
square_one Posted October 9, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 9, 2006 Me and my big mou....SPLAT!! HMMM, chocolate filling with real whipped cream on top ... soon as I lick myself clean, get my badly-sprained ankle working again, I'm out of here for REAL DIRT. One hell of an Outback, Ian, and thanks for the show! Bruce
gylee Posted October 10, 2006 Share #7 Posted October 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ian You keep posting 'em, I'll keep complimenting them. The simplicity, the line of the tracks, the angle of the sign, it all works for me here. I prefer an even blue on my skies, but that is quibbling - guess asking you to move the sun is probably a bit much. G.
lambroving Posted October 10, 2006 Share #8 Posted October 10, 2006 Ian, Another excellent use of that lens. This shot certainly makes your point!
kld Posted October 14, 2006 Share #9 Posted October 14, 2006 Nice composition, well working out the abandonment of the place. -- Klaus
martinop Posted October 14, 2006 Share #10 Posted October 14, 2006 Appealing scene. Especially like the DOF + the colors and contrast.
