azzo Posted October 3, 2006 Share #2 Posted October 3, 2006 Semrich..nicely captured. The elderly man does the picture. Regards AZZO
jacksparrow Posted October 3, 2006 Share #3 Posted October 3, 2006 sorry for playing with your picture, but what do you think about this? I would have even cropped more (leaving just the bus window) but it would have been too small.
azzo Posted October 3, 2006 Share #4 Posted October 3, 2006 Jacksparrow..... I'm sorry, but i don't agree with you.Cropping the man takes away movement in the image. If i had to crop something, it would be the car on the left. Regards AZZO
semrich Posted October 4, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted October 4, 2006 azzo, jacksparrow - Thank you both for expressing your interest in this picture. I did in fact consider the exact same crop alternately presented here but decided for the original uncropped composition in order to convey the elements of urban transit: minibus, walking, and the public bus in the left frame background. It's personal in a way because these, and others, are my means of serendipitously moving all around Istanbul taking my pictures.
jacksparrow Posted October 4, 2006 Share #6 Posted October 4, 2006 OK, true, the original is more alive... although more chaotic... I guess it's just a matter of taste. Cool image anyway :-)

semrich Posted October 5, 2006 Author Share #8 Posted October 5, 2006 Jack - Thanks, I see that you got some of what I find as meaning in this photo. That it is chaotic. My pictures hopefully convey Istanbul, its people and places, as seen through the eyes and camera of a foreigner living here, not a tourist. Istanbul is a city of almost 17 million people, go anywhere with a camera to take pictures and it will seem chaotic, however if you look you find order, how it just seems to work. For example: When you take a taxi somewhere in the city it always seems like you are in a chase scene in an action movie, but if you just sit back, relax and pay attention you become aware of just how smoothly it just all works. In the same way I pay attention to the people and life here and attempt to express my wonder in how it all works within the context of the image.
